What a load of bobba. :p

Ha ha! I'd forgotten about that word!

I used to go on Habbo Hotel 10 or 11 years ago. The annoying thing was that when it was busy you couldn't get into any of the decent rooms. I don't think I ever had any meaningful conversations on there though. I just liked making the character walk around and do things!

It is true now that we have a society of buck passers. Nothing is ever your own fault or responsibility in any way shape or form.

    So it would seem...

If you, an adult, sign up to a teens computer 'world', pose as a teen, groom teens and then persuade them into a number of sexual acts on webcam, it's not your fault. It's always the slutty kids or the lackadaisical parents. Always. Never the nonce. They're just doing online lulz stuff and it's everyone else's fault if someone falls for it.

That is definitely passing the buck.

Why are these kids agreeing to do what they are asked anyway? Does noone find it disturbing that some girls of 14 or 15 are stripping off on webcam at the drop of a hat for some complete stranger? Especially as they aren't under any physical threat.

If I found out my 15 year old daughter was stripping for a bloke on the internet in exchange fore some "furni" I would disown her.

You would disown her? How would that help solve the problem. Thank god most parents wouldn't take that attitude.

So your own daughter would be preyed upon and manipulated by some pedo and all you would do is disown her? Great parenting. Ever considered lack of parenting skills may have led to her agreeing to strip?

At 14 or 15 most kids are just that, kids. They don't think like adults. It's not (generally) other 14 year olds asking them, it's older manipulative adults.

You are just being ridiculous. No one has said that the predators are not to blame. We are just saying that there are more people to blame than the media make out.

A friend linked me to this
I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the many concerned parents who have been following the news in recent days. Our commitment to the future of the Habbo community is also a commitment to working with the parents of our site users. We believe that a comprehensive safety programme can only be delivered by close collaboration with users and parents together.

As soon as we saw the Channel Four News report on Tuesday evening, we took the decision to mute all conversations across the site. This has had a massive business impact, but the safety of our users is non-negotiable. We must maintain our focus on the quality of interaction within the Habbo community, and not the quantity of visits we receive.

Since conversations on the site were muted, we have experienced an unprecedented online response with thousands of loyal users remaining active on the site, holding a silent candle-lit vigil to express their support for Habbo. During this time, senior management and world leading technologists are working tirelessly in our Helsinki headquarters to ensure that we deliver the best possible protection to the millions of teenagers and young people who regularly visit our site.

We want to work with our users to define and deliver a fully protected environment as well as a creative user experience. That’s why I am announcing “The Great Unmute”. It’s going to provide a chance for our users to create a conversational tidal wave, telling us what they want and showing the world that our global community contains millions of responsible and proud users who have a positive experience on our site. More details will follow in the coming days.

We would like to thank Channel Four for initiating a global debate around this incredibly serious issue. It has provided a global wake-up call for both my company and our poorly regulated industry and we fully intend to actively participate in finding a regulatory solution that will protect our users and ensure the long-term reputation and future of the social gaming community.

However, I do not condone the recent practice of journalists contacting Habbo users and offering cash to share any inappropriate interactions they may have encountered on the site. If there are individuals who have been affected by inappropriate conversations, they may well be vulnerable and certainly will not benefit from self-interested approaches and offers of cash for case studies. We want to create a comprehensive and constructive response to our current challenges and send out a call to action for improved safety standards across the online gaming community. Petty attempts to generate more bad news are distracting us from the job at hand.

Please be assured that I will come back with fresh news just as soon as I am able.

they had another report on c4 last night, panel of children, sadly no experts.

not sure how they expect real time moderation of live chat between tens if not hundreds of thousands of users at a time, it was just the same hysteria as before. maybe the jon snow should have asked the kiddies if they should only be allowed to use the internet with their parents watching over their shoulders, lest they get into the sex talk...

never personally played that silly game, only heard of it when 4chan trolled them. but what do you expect when random children get together, they will get naughty....

Exactly, moderation by it's nature is reactive and all sites like this can do is respond to complaints which is what happens.
