I don't find chicken very tasty these days in itself. But I like to put a couple of legs in the slow cooker with various vegetables, spices, etc. I love it when it's all flaking off the bone.
Delish - the white meat is so boring, I love the meat nearer to the bone.
You can still get most things round here repaired. It's a bit like Greece, with a lot of unemployment, broke people, and unnecessary dancing.
That's like the village we go to - since the fishing industry has fallen by the wayside, most of the guys can turn their hand to many different things. The women have always had several jobs, gardening, dog walking, helping out in the local shop, baby sitting, cleaning of holiday and other properties and lots more.
Trust me Litts I absolutely hated it ( had to do it twice ) but no way was I going to vote for a guy who had voted for our expulsion from the Labour Party , which left me with a choice between a Tory and a Liberal . Im one of those folks that believes voting should be compulsory but I also believe there should be a box on every ballot paper that says " none of the above " ...I suspect that " none of the above " would find itself being a major Party ....certainly bigger than the Lib Dems
Yes, there is some attraction to the possibility of the voter being able to say "I am sorry but I can't find anything I am inclined to vote for from among the candidates listed above".:D
Sam and I were just talking about this last night and we came to the same conclusion.
Things are really desperate here, more so than they portrayed in the British media who nitpick about hairdressers being a special profession and imply that Greeks are lazy. A doctor's visit has to be paid for and the money reclaimed now from the health service. It is about 10 euros and isn't repaid for months. Many are too poor to visit a doctor, many people havn't been paid for months and there is no cushion here. The people are victims of greed and corruption from higher up the scale and it will take years to stamp out.
The priests have the nerve to protest that their special allowance (on top of their salary) is being cut. The Church is hugely wealthy but pays no tax. I could go on.......:(
I like it when you tell us things like this. It makes the news more real. I don't read or watch the news much any more, i can't cope with the misery of it all around the world, something about which I can do nothing.
But I have the impression that there is virtually nothing that can be done in the foreseeable future in Greece. you can't create income sources just like that. And it is that which makes me scared about how far we are from the same financial abyss. I sense we are quite a way away, but even so, if we don't get on and start changing,,,,,,
Why should we think the Greeks are lazy. Of course not. Nor are the Portuguese.
Oh sh*t ..just had a phone call..one of my friends died ...big massive massive hugs to the lot of you peace and love ...going out NOW ...leave hugs here...hadnt seen him for nearly a year but I am
Acker I'm so sorry. It's an awful shock to hear news of an unexpected death, and whether you saw the person last month or last year, it's still a shock.
The disabled are portrayed as money grabbing chancers, aided and abetted by the press.
Take for example the disabled woman who was "caught" on fairground rides. Splashed all over the papers, yet it seems her condition fluctuated.
It could so easily be me. i can very often be seen running around like a mountain goat. What you don't see is the two days beforehand resting in preparation or the two days in agony that follows.
I do not claim any benefit whatsoever, and there is no way this side of hell that i would go through the humiliation and stress that is both routine and fully deliberate.
The system should've been overhauled years ago - we need panels comprising people from all walks of life and with diverse abilities and disabilities.
The whole thing is crazy. My youngest daughter has CP and a spectrum disorder She wants to work, she has worked. She was a receptionist at a leisure centre but was told she would be made redundant, along with another. My eldest daughter heard that the Environment Agency were down on their disabled ratio so she applied and was taken on there as a messenger between departments. After a few months, she was made redundant from there. When she asked for help in finding another job from the disability section, she was told that she was not entitled to any help finding a job as by finding her own employment the previous time, she had put herself beyond help from any government schemes. She was advised to take all sorts of benefits but given no help finding a job and she does need help with this.
Now, she is seen as a workshy scrounger and , after 5 years without a job, has no hope. She volunteers in a charity shop to keep busy and useful.
This stupidity should be made known to uninformed members of the public who refuse to acknowledge the difference between someone who wishes to work and is capable of working, and a feckless work shy scrounger. Thre are thousands of people who have no idea that there is a difference.

The Church could do so much to help but they use their power to subjugate and their money for themselves.Round the corner from where I have my lesson, there is a whole area dedicated to selling Church artefacts to Churches and Monasteries. The windows are crowded with gold and bejewelled items. None of these places have gone out of business, unlike dozens of shops and services in the same area. It is sickening to see their cars (which are also subsidised),offloading priests and monks who ooh and ah over these items and try on rings and crosses and embroidered shawls and buy gold chalices and icons.
TheU,K, tabloid press portray the Greeks, Spaniards etc as lazy .

I have been shocked lately in speaking to people how little assistance is given in helping to find a job. Of course being given the right benefits is essential, but more than that is needed. And i have found that the jobs adverts system is the same as battersea dogs home - jobs are shown as being available long after they have been filled. But the ads are left so that unemployed people will still contact the reference number which is an employment agency not an employer. So the public sector is doing the private sector's job for them. And this is NOT a case where the private sector is employed by the public. It isn't. So the PS is helping agencies who earn money by charging employers when they find an employee for them. madness. Why can't the employers supply job details to the DWP.
Rice has always been about the same to cook, 10 minutes aftre being brought to the boil, use twice the quantity of water as rice and simmer for the 10 minutes, drain any excess water off.
The best rice is cooked the day before and frozen in small amounts and thawed/heated in the microwave, best way by far, try it.
If you only have 1 freezer you should always have a chest freezer.
Most upright freezers have to work very hard as when you open them the cold air shoots out of the bottom because cold air is heavy.
In a chest freezer the cold air can't get out as it's too heavy.
If i hadn't paid of extra on my mortgage i would have been in one hell of a mess when i retired as the insurance etc wouldn't have covered it.
Sorry to hear that acker.:(
It has always been the same to cook and I have always been unable to cook it nicely.
I don't want a chest freezer, it wastes space. The freezer is never open for long.
That is because you were not paying off your mortgage monthly, as you did not have a repayment mortgage. You had an endowment mortgage, and you would have been in stuck if you had not been investing enough in order to pay off the capital at the end, That was a different thing to what i was talking about, except you could say it was exactly what I said - it was better to invest or save than it was to pay off in lump sums.
Window-cleaning is one of only two professions for which PPE graduates are qualified, the other being politics.
Sorry to be so literal, but OH's eldest organises walking tours of Japan. Prior to that he was a TV producer for the Japanese BBC. Prior to that he taught music on a Japanese island. And in the middle of that, he took his second degree, in classical jazz piano.
Actually paying off extra on your mortgage was NOT recommended by financial gurus until the last few years. If you had extra money, you were advised to invest it. When i retired 8 years ago, my financial adviser was very cross when he found out that I had paid off a chunk of my mortgage.:D You can take the girl out of local authority housing, but you can't take the la housing attitude out of the girl.:D
I think the advice to invest was for those with a substantial amount available, not an extra tenner.

But we dont all do rice the same, and nor has rice always been the same because different kinds need different times. My advice to Litts is to stop trying and get a ricecooker or carry on as she is. Has the rice in packets been steamed?
That sounds good, i have never had Cornish sausage.:o

Again, a business created by preying on the vulnerable, and exactly like Battersea and other rescue centres who (allegedly) are unwilling to rehome pets because it suits them better financially to hang on to them.
As for the "help to work only there isnt any so bugger off and die quietly" department, not only do they often
refuse to help those that want to work, but they assume that those who have been clever/lucky enough to find a particular job to be able to turn a hand to any old job at the drop of a hat, when there are simply not enough jobs.
Thanks - thought Politics might be one of the Ps, but didnt have a clue about the rest
Perfectly valid question - I tend to forget that not everyone is familiar with it! My brother read PPE and so did my best friend and her brother, so I've always been familiar with the title.

You should try recruiting apprentices and similar:eek: Thre's a lot of literature circulating at the moment, mailshots to local employers, highlighting local colleges who allegedly have 16 and 18 year olds seeking work in industry. It took me 3 months to find the scheme co-ordinator (and I know my way around these set ups) and it took him another 5 weeks even to send us any paperwork.. By the time I contacted 2 of the people on the list, one had left to travel the world and the other had fallen off a roof and broken more bones than you would ever wish to imagine.
I fail to see the point, from either side, of sending middle aged redundant middle management (usually men) for interviews in care homes for the elderly and infirm. I doubt that the residents would welcome being looked after by a man who had no clue - particularly when there are people available who have better skills for the job and would enjoy it far more. Who does this help?
acker ((((hugs)))) so sorry to hear about your friend.
OH off to Singapore today, I'm on my second coffee and nursing various bruises after yesterday's sailing fun:rolleyes: it was too windy for the hobie so we borrowed a club dinghy and spent most of the afternoon capsizing....I'm getting too old now to be hauling myself back onboard small, tippy dinghies, not to mention the effort involved in getting the sodding thing upright again in the first place....ach, well, at least the water was warm:) and the beer cold:D but dear lord I'm stiff this morning:eek:
Thats why you really need to consider what make you get, if it isn't one of the usual ones then parts may be hard to get.
Bosch parts may have to come from Germany.
If there are sales with a lot off one particular model then it's probably been superseded, good makes will keep a supply of spares for at least 10 years.
New model PCs were introduced in January to get rid of the old stock over Christmas
Extreme physical exercise can cause heart attacks even in fit, healthy people. A young hod carrier who once lived near me dropped down dead at work--a family man. It's rare, but considering the pressure athletes, etc., put their body under, I'm not surprised it happens--especially when combined with stress anxiety. It's promising that Muamba is still alive, I must say.
i've been to many a funeral of people fitter and younger than me

I agree about washing-up liquid. Not so long ago I bought a couple of large bottles of Fairy Liquid which had a big "50%" marking on the front. When I got home I realised it said something like "50% improved". Now that was a clever trick--I'd taken it at a glance for a "50% Extra Free" sign. For all my attempts to shop carefully, I make mistakes like that quite regularly.
The biggest con is like 3 for a quid when then individual items are 35p so you are saving 5p
You are right about the chicken lasting for more than one meal, but it is still nowhere near the cheapest when you can get fifty sausages for two pounds. Toad in hole, sausage casserole, sausage buttys sausage and chips, sausage and mash over and over and over again.:)
I don't think it is "living within our means" that people find so repugnant, but the deliberate attack on weaker members of society.
Regarding rice, at the moment the smaller supermarket packets (raw) are generally cheaper per kilo than the large sacks in other shops, though usually it is the other way.
I usually get the sacks but i have often bought small amounts because i don't have enough for a sack.
Like chicken. Cheaper in threes but someone like Balders on their own would need to freeze two, and the ten pounds on one food might mean going without other types. It is not easy.
Ten pound on one food:eek::( thats about 4 days of food

In reality it stands for 'Personal Protective Equipment' it's an HSE code.
All companies and sites, factories use this code, don't know how a political party or Uni or anything can be allowed to use it.
