HP Noebook Pavilion 2- using TV as monitor

Totally PC illiterate here. Initially got used to my new Notebook and was getting on fine. However, allowed supposedly essential downloads and everything has gone wrong. Initially what I would like back is the facility to use my TV as a monitor, worked perfectly before downloads now it says I need drivers etc !? Anyone have any idea?

That takes you to the screen where you configure monitors. Obviously have the TV connected when you do this.
Also on a laptop, you often have to press one of the function keys to enable an external display.
Were these downloads Windows Updates or something else?
