You know, if we still had capital punishment, none of this would have happened

Sixty-nine prisoners were released from British jails by mistake last year.
Sex offenders, burglars and inmates convicted of violence and robbery in England, Wales and Scotland were among those wrongly freed.

The statistics for 2009-10 were disclosed to the BBC after a Freedom of Information Act request.

It is thought most mistakes were due to prison staff miscalculating release dates.

And the so-called 'staff' should receive a minimum of 10 years for their sickening 'mistake'.

People getting released by mistake - the death penalty. Two separate issues entirely.

Even if we did have the death penalty (and I am extremely glad that we don't), I doubt any of the prisoners who were released would have been sentenced to it anyway. They don't usually execute burglars, for example.

So you want all criminals executed in case a burglar is released early? Bit of an overreaction, isn't it?

I appreciate what you're saying but a near-enough capital punishment should be received.

That'll make sure the burglar thinks twice before he/she commits that same sickening offense (or any other).

Would all crimes get the death penalty? Or is there a starting point?

Well, I agree there should be a limit as to who gets that penalty. Obviously when a life is taken (whether it be in human or animal form), should be a start.

It either is, or it isn't capital punishment...

Presumably, one where you'd be hanged by the neck until you were nearly dead.

Or put in an electric chair with the plug cut off.

Not sure if I would agree to that; in fact, no; I wouldn't.

Then how do you define "near enough capital punishment"? And don't you think it's a bit harsh for admin errors?

Yeah, killing is wrong. And to punish people for it, we will kill them. Go figure:confused:

I think everyone who has posted in this thread should face the death penalty, which also means, technically, by default, myself. Oh dear....

Also what of wrongful convictions? "Oh sorry, Mr Bloggs, but we executed Mrs Bloggs and it turns out she was innocent after-all! Here, have a voucher..."

So injuring convicts isn't appropriate, but taking a life is?

None of those crimes carry the death penalty.

Your pathetic attempt at making this a point about the death penalty is embarrassing and sad.
