Crystal Palace CH 35

For the last few days my Tesco/Technika Freeview HD box has been detecting a signal on UHF CH 35 from Crystal Palace. Signal quality is constant at 95% and strength varies anywhere from 32% right up to 75%, but it won't decode any channels, just shows "tuning failed" when I try and tune it in. Anyone know what this is?

This going to be com8 mux.

This multiplex has also been switched on from Winter Hill recently, the reason isn't known. Could be another 4K test, could be anything.

So it is. Coming through loud and clear. Well, quiet and clear really. It's mildly encouraging that it's been switched on again.

Edit: then again, maybe it's for QVC+1 HD! Great excitement.

I find it to be more likely a combined +1/HD licence (doesn't one of the C4 channels have one of these?). In which case, expect two channels to (eventually) launch: QVC HD and QVC +1.

It has indeed gone, I wonder whether Winter Hill is still there. Oh well at least it proves the transmitter still works.

WH is still broadcasting an empty COM8.

I've only just spotted this. It's DVB-T2 but there's no Program table so we're not missing anything yet.

More likely it's sponsored by QVC, given all the QVC HD licences that keep appearing.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I've read discussion of COM 8 on here before so should really have figured out that's what it was/is. For a moment I thought it might have been RTE as referenced in another thread until I realised the weather conditions and my location ruled that out.

I have good signal on channel 35 but no channels have been picked up yet. So it either testing for 4xHD or for com8 as it's needed now as rest of the muxes are full

Emley Moor is apparently also transmitting null packets on Ch 34

COM8 is now up and running with services from Winter Hill - I've started a new thread rather than continue in multiple threads for different transmitters - http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2066575
