The judges seemed unimpressed with Jules and Matisse.

Not since Jamiroqui on The X Factor (after he insulted Dannii and Cheryl, who were judges at the time) have I seen a special guest on these shows not get a standing ovation. Simon didn't even bother to applaud!
I wonder what the issue was? I mean it was a crap performance, but that didn't stop them cheering on Nick Jonas the night before.

But you are wrong. She was the one who didn't make it clear she was using two dogs because she hid the second dog after the act was over.
Then why did they have her back on this year? He's so powerful that he could have vetoed it.
They stood behind the act to a certain extent and the outrage finally died down and his staff backstage / ITV were just as much to blame I would say. I think if she never mentioned that there was more than one dog on Lorraine the morning after the win then no one would have been none the wiser.
What is the actual problem here? Seems to me that it just hurt his pride/ego that he didn't work it out.
Deleted as I was mistaken. But yes, the production staff would know she was using two dogs.
By that logic, a few poor singers and no one should ever sing again.
In the final she had Mattise and that other dog she was holding - no idea what that dog is. She said the morning after it was another dog on the tight rope (which then caused the outrage). Seeing tonight she has 3 others which look the same makes me question everything we seen last year. Having several dogs is absolutely fine, but when you are making out it is just one, that's not on.
Hmm yes, good point. Personally, I've never been impressed with the dog acts - it's a case of "seen it once, seen it all", it just doesn't impress me but each to their own.
I think the issue with the multiple dog situation is that the act was called Jules and Matiesse, before the controversy forced her to add the "and Friends" part. I don't actually think Jules is to blame - if she was that concerned about it, she wouldn't have blurted out that she had other dogs on Lorraine the next day. The problem was the show billing her as having just the one dog, and I'm guessing they didn't allow for her to bring the second dog on stage afterwards. Personally, I think she'd have won even more successfully if the other dogs were brought out after her final performance last year but hey ho.
I don't think the story was very coherant. I'm guessing it was some sort of Wallace and Gromit-inspired cloning thing, but the fact of it was that a lot of it was Jules running around the stage with a broom whilst the dog followed her. It didn't seem very impressive for a winning act, and I agree that it wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the top three in this years show.
That said, Jules is clearly a talented and patient lady, but the performance last night didn't showcase that.
I don't think she has a good stage presence or any charisma and I'm not convinced that all the training is done with kindness, the dogs didn't look too happy.
I think that a lot of the appeal with Jules was down to her VTs - she was portayed as a lonely woman who was dedicated to her dogs and the relationship she had with them. Without that build up, her act seems pretty mundane. I think, previously, her lack of stage presence was countered by her impressive routines performed by her dogs but last night, even that was lacking.
I did think that the dogs looked a bit desolate last night. Maybe due to the pyro at the end of the performance? Granted, the dogs were off stage during that, but even so - my parents dog cowers under the table in the kitchen on bonfire night, those dogs must have been in closer proximity and it may have shaken them knowing that was coming up as part of the routine.
Yeah, seems to me that more = better, at least with Simon, hence his joy at the polar bears. I like dogs and dog acts but they do have to be good. Yday's performance was mediocre as the plot was really unclear but the tricks Matisse (if it was Matisse) did were really good.
I agree. I was disappointed because I told my partner how good an act it was but it left us both wanting.
Yeah, it was odd. In light of just learning about the controversy of the multiple Matisses, perhaps she was trying to stick up two fingers by making it the plot of the piece that she has multiple border collies in the act? Just a theory.
Yeah, sorry. I should have googled first, my memory was way off.
Firstly, I don't believe for a second that Simon didn't know there were 2 dogs involved in her act.
Secondly, so what if there were? Much more likely she was told how to present her act.
Thirdly, he made a (rather hypocritical) point about 'Another Kind of Blue' bringing their backstage helpers to the stage at the end spoiling the 'magic'.
Oh my god, I remember you from last year with your fantasies of cruelty. The dogs are clearly well looked-after and happy.
