The only talent show winner's music I'd have even considered buying was Alex Parks. Very talented. Shame the industry wanted to push her in a silly cheap popular direction.
The rest are a nonsense.
Especially the likes of Leona and Alexandra. Sure they can sing. But that for me does not an artist make.
Will Young ain't my thing but he's come closest to being a fully fledged artist out of all of them.
I think Diana has a chance as well.
No TV talent show star will ever get real credibility from the industry, critics and hardcore music buying fans.
For me it has to be the following people who I adore:
Rhydian - he is something special in this industry - he is both a showman and an incredible singer
Will Young - just so unique and an amazing singer songwriter
David Cook - his range is extraordinary and his voice is just spellbinding
Clay Aiken - my fave ever AI runner up - his voice is angelic.
Will Young (Pop Idol)
Kelly Clarkson (AI)
Fantasia (AI)
David Cook (AI)
Shayne Ward (X-factor)
Connie Fisher (How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria)
Lee Mead (Any Dream Will Do)
From the US, Adam Lambert for sure. He was just great and should have won. Also love Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
From the UK, Alexandra Burke. She was excellent on the show. Also liked Ruth Lorenzo. She should have been in the final that year. I remember the week she went out - she had given such a great performance yet that wee Eoghan sailed through and she was booted. It was a joke.
Obviously, your opinion. Americans like authenticity. Kris Allen was showing us, via the various themes, the kind of artist he hoped to be. He really managed to shape those themes to suit his strengths and won kudos doing so.
Adam, to my mind, was fitting himself into the competition, DESPITE what he wanted to do outside of it. He even said, I saw a hole in the competition. There was no "rock" singer, so I would be that, despite the fact that it wasn't who he was or what he had been doing or wanted to be. I think the audience detected the lack of authenticity. I know I did. He, in fact, was playing to his strength, i.e., playing a role as one does in theater, rather than being the artist he wanted to be.

I'd say either Leona Lewis or Carrie Underwood.
Really liked Joe and feel it's a shame they're trying to market him to teens who to be honest won't be into him cos he's gay.
Leona and Alexandra as well. Oh and JLS are pretty good.

Kellie pickler is doing well in the country music scene in USA.
She was on AI this year singing.
I am also liking Kellie Pickler

Edit: Can't believe I nearly forgot Carrie Underwood. So am adding her on.
