Haven't bought anything from them for at least 9 or 10 years. Each time I checked their prices, which mainly happened when I was looking for DVDs, they were always one of the most expensive.
Gave up manually checking their site versus Amazon, Play.com and others some time ago, and when I use this automated checker it usually finds they are still more costly than their rivals:
Example - I've just checked the box set of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. It's £14.75 delivered from Amazon, and even the BBC's own online shop manages £16.49. HMV want £22.00.
Just wait until theres not much of a high street left then the Government considering doing an online tax on purchases.
And that the crux of the matter, no high street and the government will soon look elsewhere for cash, not to mention the economic damage of less jobs and knock on effects.

We'll have a high street comprising a John Lewis, A Debenhams, A Topshop, Next and 400 different bookmakers, pawnbrokers, coffee shops and payday loan offices

And WHSmith who are amazingly in a good position. Was something on our staff room table a few months ago. Profits are up 9% on last year and 11% in travel stores.
I dont think a 25% sale is how HMV is going to close, plenty of stores in my local shopping centre on 70% sales, none of which are going anywhere. 25% sale is nothing at the moment.
As ive said in the previous threads, nothing worth buying.
Had a look in one of the stores today and have had a look at the website. A lot of the stock in the store that was marked with the blue cross sticker is not marked as being part of the sale on the website. Did some tests on the site by selecting items that I had seen in the store as being marked with the blue cross, typed in the code but it wouldn't take anything off. Some blu-ray titles that were marked with the blue cross in-store,are listed on the website as being part of the 5 for £30 offer and thus are not included in the website blue cross. This is confusing and misleading if you can get the blue cross discount by buying something in store but cannot get it by buying the same title online.
Edit: OK,I just did another test by adding a title that IS marked on the website as being part of blue cross but I still can't get any discount to come off!

i know everyone hates them, and they are not the cheapest, but i do like just going into a shop and buying something i can take away there and then. hopelessly old skool, i expect.
Sky's City Editor thinks the banks have called time.
Hmm, can't see the banks calling time in that article. Perhaps i am not reading it carefully enough. Nevertheless if the article is right about what the board are considering it's a pretty sad affair.
No doubt it will make the many people who seem to hate HMV on this forum very happy. Maybe they could spare a thought for the employees of the company who don't deserve what may be about to happen to them.

I think until those people lose their own jobs and aren't in a position to worry where their next box set is coming from because they can't afford to eat never mind shop, you're asking a lot there

BIB. Just to clarify, the City Editor stated that he thought that was what had happened on Jeff Randall's show, hence the emergency board meeting. He didn't put it in the article.

25 percent off everything is pathetic considering HMV's prices. I could probably buy elsewhere on the internet for less than that!
Indeed.
BBC's Life dvd boxset is still £4.25 more expensive than Amazon, even after taking the 25% off.

If not, then the answer is yes, they're on their way out.
Poundshops! Dont forget the Poundshops!
Please give the source for your information that the "banks have called time".

Yes I totally agree.
