Famous people with failed soap auditions

Which actors failed at auditions for certain characters before finding fame elsewhere? Ones I've heard are:-

Derek Martin. Apparently auditioned for the now iconic roles of Den Watts and later Frank Butcher before eventually becoming Charlie Slater.

Leslie Grantham. Auditioned for the role of Pete Beale and the producers thought him too good looking for the role and saw his potential for Den Watts

Matthew Wolfenden. Originally went for the role of Eli Dingle losing out to Joe Gilgun before winning the role of David Metcalfe. What a different Eli that would have been :)

Ken Farrington. Got to the last two for Dennis Tanner before being called back for Billy Walker.

Claire Goose. Later famed for Casualty and Waking The Dead got far down the list to play Tiff in EE before Martine McCoucheon got the nod.

Anymore for anymore? :D

Yeh he said that the part was too obvious and he didn't want yet another gangster type role. As you say thank god he turned it down.

I think it was for a black character. Possibly Sacha valentine. Didn't they realise Michelle isn't black? Orange maybe but not black! :D
