What jobs have you had?

I was on the books as a junior at my local football team at 16 but never signed professional terms after I broke my leg. Studied engineering at the same time and got an apprenticeship at the same time to pay my way.

Earned a scholarship to an American University so spent a few years over there and worked as a football coach and also as a server in a diner.

Soon as I graduated joined the army and served for 6 years before being discharged. Was going to take another degree so went on a gap year doing missionary work in Rowanda but back in the UK I landed a job as a regional rep for a major pharmaceutical company.

Re-trained as a counsellor through the open university before supplementing studies and volunteer placements by working in a builders yard. Spent 3 years as assistant manager of local bookmakers before taking a year off to care for my stepdaughter.

Just been temping recently up until Christmas in small engineering roles before take up new role working in pastoral care on 3rd January.

    • Data entry clerk for one of the construction firms building the THORP reprocessing plant.
    • Computer programmer in small Bangor computer shop.
    • Computer programmer for an accounting software house in Kettering.
    • Software engineer and data recovery engineer.
    • Senior software engineer.

Actually the last two are the same employment term. I left the accounting software house in 1991 and although I've been through several mergers and a couple of takeovers I'm still in the same job from a legal point of view. Got my 20 year service award last month.

Apart from bar and hotel work when I was a student, I've been in the same career - teaching - since 1990. I've had several different jobs, though, in a variety of schools across three continents.
