Bono is obsessed with the music canon and obviously desperate to be associated with many 'legends', the worthier and critically acclaimed the better.

just watch many rock documentaries of almost anyone worthy of one in the last 50 years - theres a good chance Bono will be in there somewhere.

U2 formed 38yrs ago on September 25th 1976 and they started out playing covers from bands like The Ramones, The Clash etc.In 1977 they sneaked into a Ramones gig-- Bono & Adam were 16, Edge was 15 and Larry was only 14-- and that experience pushed them into sticking together and writing their own songs.U2 became friends with The Ramones and Bono wrote a touching euology for Joey Ramone when he passed away.

Songs of Innocence is a history of U2 in song-- forming a band through friendship, Bono & Larry losing their mothers in their teens, the political troubles that affected their lives, meeting their future wives(Bono's wife Ali went to the same school as the rest of U2.They've been married 32yrs.Adam was best man ) and their first trip to California amongst other things. It's intimate, intense and joyous at the same time.I love it :D

Check this out. It's hysterical and sad at the same time. Those poor, poor people suddenly hate free stuff :p

Yes, I get the idea for the album and I am warming to many of the songs.
It is not as experimental or innovative an album as their 80s and 90s works but is more in keeping with the sort of song collection albums they have produced since 'All that you can't leave behind'.

(I still think 'The Miracle (of Joey Ramone) has a Slade rather than a Ramones sound to it.)

I've never liked U2, in fact I loath them, but this morning I decided to whack Songs Of Innocence on while doing some course work and I have to say it's not that bad for a U2 record, if It was done by somebody I liked I'm sure I'd love it even more. Doesn't make me want to listen to Thier back catalogue though!!
