While driving along the motorway I noticed many cars are now silver.. and boring... but why dont we ever see a real brown car... Ive seen metallic ones but not a true brown. is it the most unpopular colour .. I like it and also deep mahogany, bottle green but you dont see many at all. must be old fashioned... does anyone remember the baby blue Renault Dauphine.. I thought it was beautiful..

Indeed, car colours in the 1970's were 'interesting' to say the least!

There is far too much silver about nowadays though, it's a bit boring.

    It was actually called 'Sand Glow' ;

....but your description is probably more accurate! ;-)

Hahaha :D I would have said mustard, but yes it does look more like diarrhea :D

I do see a lot of the Fiat 500's around in a sort of cappuccino colour - I call it cappuccino rather than brown because all their colours seem sort of continental pastels.

My car's a dark matt grey, I absolutely hate it considering I actually ordered a bright blue :D Couldn't be bothered to argue the toss as it's my daughter's motability car and the colour's unimportant at the end of the day, although I'd be able to find it easier in a car park were it a brighter colour!

I don't think much of them tbh

I will only buy cars in Black, White, Grey or Silver.

There were some terrible colours on cars years ago.

I remember Leyland did an awful dull mustard colour that they used on Allegros.

Burgundy was also a popular colour in the 70s and early 80s. I remember seeing a new Aston Martin Lagonda in a showroom on Sloane St that was burgundy with white leather interior.

I'm sure no up and coming late 1970s household was complete without a beige car. I remember seeing a lot of them about when I was a kid. Sadly we never managed beige but had a clapped out old mk 1 escort which was bright orange with a hint of rust.

I think the problem is not so much the beige as the fact it's an old Skoda. Why do I get the feeling from that picture that someone is waiting to push it over the edge of that hillside?

S'pose it's an age/model thing... an orange 60s Beetle would look fine but an Orange Ford Focus would look odd.
I've had cars in all colours. My main thing now is what colour looks cleanest for longest so after much trial and error (including a huge error thinking black would hide dirt best; how wrong was that!!) I go for a dark-ish grey as car looks quite clean for literally weeks after washing it. Sorta related is the daft names makers give their colours.... pretty sure mine's "shark grey" or something equally preposterous!

My previous car was a dark grey and I hated it. Didnt care much for the car either but needed a bigger vehicle at the time for Pushchairs and the like. Now have a nice dark blue Focus and apart from being a much better car I like the colour too.

This website shows what colours they did and a description.

Antique gold - sort of a baby's soiled nappy colour, that made me laugh.

I had a russett brown Triumph Dolomite for a first car, it was known as the "dollop of shite" to my mates, my second car was another Dolomite that was a beige-ey colour, I don't know if it was a faded whirte or was supposed to be beige. Citroen did a sort of beige colour, seen a few old Ami 8's painted like that.

I had a crappy Talbot Horizon in '82. It was an appropriate Diarrhoea Brown.

My parents had a tappetty 1980 Horizon in the late 1980s. I loathed it. Mind, the colour of it was alright - a vivid shade of blue.

I think Soundbox's beige Skoda is ace. I wouldn't have minded one of those for my first or second car (1990s) .

My favourite car colours of all time are turquoise (as used on 1970s Datsuns) https://flic.kr/p/9BoSAY or metallic copper https://flic.kr/p/6vABiy . :)

I am rather bored of the silvers, greys and blacks that seem to adorn many new cars these days.

My Uncle had one of these.

I thought it was so cool in Yellow. He replaced it with a Black XR2 MK1 that looked good as well.

I went to Japan a good few years ago. 90% of the cars were white.

    It was odd.

Think they stopped making beige cars in the 1980's.

That colour typified the bland sort of cars British Leyland used to produce, such as the Austin Allegro.

It a bit of a non-colour for me and I'm glad I don't see it around much any more.
I see someone else immediately thought of the Allegro..... square(ish) steering wheel 'n all. Worra heap of crap. Beige was the perfect colour for this piece of junk and 4 wheels.

They are certainly renowned for white cars; possibly something to do with their passion for being neat, clean and tidy???

All Japanese Taxi drivers wear white gloves as well;......more of a uniform sort of thing rather than odd, I guess.

There’s a lot of white taxis in Japan. :)

I make no excuses - I have a beige car https://www.dropbox.com/s/ydo35tsy8tj87hd/DSC_0227-20150322-214324104.jpg?dl=0 if you want to see.

What I don't understand is why beige is not hugely more popular. To me it looks good in all sorts of light, keeps cool in summer, is a distinctive colour and is not drab like solid dark blue. I am seeing some new Fiat 500's driving about in a sort of brown but no beige ones.

So what do you think of beige cars - like or dislike?

I like the colour very much but that is just my opinion.
I would love to have a beige car....

Though I don't think they'd call them beige. Probably, champagne colour, oyster colour etc.

No idea why they're not more popular, I think the colour always looks really smart!

Our first 2 cars were Focus, loved them but had to go for the mini-Focus - the Fiesta :D - because having a bigger car just for the 2 of us was using too much petrol.

    Yawn.

People who obsess over the colour of cars are so boring.

Would you rather have a Nissan GTR in beige or some awful Peugeot 207 or other such dreck in a 'nice' colour?
