Recently upgraded to High Definition with VM after numerous calls to VM regarding the missing HD channels included in my Standard Definition Lineup, I have been told that I need to pay for the HD variations of the channels I already subscribe to, What a farce, I already recieve
Living
SyFy
Eurosport
E4
but I have to pay again to watch HD Channels
Living HD
SyFy HD
Eurosport HD
E4 HD
All the VM Hype about upgrading to HD is a joke,
Part time - BBC HD
ITV1 HD
Channel4 HD
Are the only HD Channels I get from VM, luckily I have Freesat TV which has more HD Channels.
I have no intention of paying twice for the same channels

What on earth are you whinging about?
If you are in the XL pack you get the HD channels for no extra cost.
Try Sky and they will want £10 for the HD mix
With Film4HD arriving on Virgin soon that will be 13 HD channels for XL customers.
Freesat has nowhere near that amount.
Why whinge about paying for channels twice when by buying Freesat you are already doing that .
you just need to "buy" the HD box for £49
and the £35 installation fee, when I say buy the box,
you do not actually buy the box,
because if you cancel your Virgin TV subscription,
they get to keep the box, not you,
like what Sky customers do, they buy the box
and they can keep it
If you have, adding or upgrading to the XL TV pack,
then you can get the Free V+ Box instead,
but I think that you still need to pay the £35 installation fee
All HD channels on Virgin are free, like Sky,
the HD channels you get are dependent
on what your TV package is
Size M and L customers get BBC HD, BBC One HD soon,
ITV HD and Channel 4 HD, plus FilmFour HD soon
Size XL customers will get all the HD channels

HD channels are not free on Sky - except for ITV/BBC/C4 you have to pay £10 even if you are on the sixmix.
Virgins equivalent of the sixmix is XL which gives the HD channels at no extra cost including ESPN HD which a Sky customer would need to pay £22 a month extra for
Complete bollocks. The skyhd channels DO NOT depend on what package your tv is apart from premium movies and sport. The skyhd pack includes all non premium HD channels regardless of what package you subscribe to and if you do take movies and sports you get all those HD channels too.
From a rumour at sky user forums it may soon be on the cards for sometime in oct.If it does materialise is anyones guess.
Yeah i`ve been following that. Guess we`ll have to wait and see.
Cant see it myself but who knows!
And as a XL subscriber ,i have no intention of paying for non XL subsciber's to view all HD channel's that i pay extra to view in XL package, you get what you pay for ,simple as.
As far as I know you only get BBCHD and ITVHD on freesat. With Virgin you get CH4HD as well so how does freesat have more HD channels
XL customers on Virgin do get all the HD channels for free,
unlike Sky customers who pay £10 a month extra,
XL customers who do not have a HD box, will not view the HD channels
and non XL customers will only get a few HD channels on their non XL TV pack,
but need to have a HD box to view them
I hope this helps you
So does that mean to "view HD channels at no extra cost" its going to cost me £84? - so over the space of 12 months I'm only going to save £36 over a sky subscriber paying £10 p/m?
I have just got a V+ box (last month) at no cost at all. It comes (came) with XL TV pack.
yes, in year 2 you save £120 and in year 3 another £120, when your box breaks you save the replacement cost where a sky subscriber has to buy a new box.
No, it just costs £23 a month for all the HD channels,
plus the installation of the box £49 plus another £35 on top,
or try to get the V+ for Free, if you want the XL TV Pack,
which is £22 a month less than what
Sky customers are paying, sorry I do not know what
it is over 12 months, but £22x12 =£264
so you will properly pay this more than Virgin,
if you are a Sky customer over 12 months
and £264 over 12 months is a lot extra over
a year more than Virgin, why Sky charge so much?
When I compared the packages of both companies
Sky customers pay £264 more than Virgin customers over 12 months,
like what my maths at the top pointed out,
not £36 like you have suggested,
including the ESPN channels that Sky customers
have to pay £12 a month extra for,
that is why Sky customers pay £22 a month extra
for our HD channels
Eh
What are you on about? How do you work out that sky customers pay £22 a month more than VM customers???
I pay £10 for my HD channels, not £22
If you are a new VM Customer, and subscribe to XL TV you get the V+ BOX FREE.
So, you will only have to pay installation, however there are some Bundles which offer FREE installation - so your charge for HD is £0. Compared to SKYs £120 per year.
You can get better deals on the Web.
Sigh ....
What I said, except in less letters
£10 is for the HD Pack and £12 is for the ESPN Channels,
making a total of £22 a month, as Virgin customers get the
ESPN channels for free, yes free and Sky customers have to pay for it,
I know it is not fair, but we are talking about Sky do not forget
Virgin XL TV (without phone) - £29 (£49 install)
Sky 1 pack with HD £28 (£25 install without phone)
You dont get ESPN, but you get a lot more HD than Virgin has to offer for £1 cheaper.
They are on M+ TV package where they receive and subscribe to the following channels, Living, SyFy, Eurosport and E4, to get these in HD they will have to upgrade to XLTV. In their eyes HD will not be free, if it was free those channels they already receive would be available in HD on M+ TV package. They are only wanting the channels they already get but in HD, but it will cost extra, which I think is a fair point.
I can't see why they have put *E4 HD and Living HD on XLTV, when the SD versions are fta, they are no different to ITV HD and C4 HD in that respect. Eurosport HD and SyFy HD are different as their SD versions are not fta channels but subscription channels.
* I think Sky do the same with E4, it's included in the HD pack which I disagree with, but there must be more to how this channel operates than first thought.
But not all sky customers want or have ESPNHD so it's a pointless comparison.
Just because virgin include it in their XL package, doesn't automatically mean all sky subscribers must add it to their package!
Shouldn't that be if your box breaks?
And you don't have to buy a new box at all. If your out of your first 12 months and if you don't take out insurance, you pay a call out fee of £65 which covers everything needed to fix the fault including a replacement box.
It's totally free? are you sure ?
