The face off between Bronson and Fonda in One Upon a Time in the West is my favourite by far.

Second favourite is Luke's final charge at Vader in Return of the Jedi.

The coke deal in Goodfellas where he's coked up, paranoid and seeing the helicopter. Music Jump into the Fire by Harry Nilsson.

Was just about to mention the scene where the kids find Morry and his wife dead in the pink Cadillac...the camera pans up and the piano coda section from Layla kicks in...magical and nigh on perfect.

Of course the rest of the track plays over Liottas narration, where the varios fates and demise of the mob members is played out.

The Big Ship by Brian Eno in The Lovely Bones.
Also Song To The Siren by This Mortal Coil in the same film.

Poor film, but some very effective use of music.

Sorry to be a pedant, but it's Johnny Roastbeef and his wife, not Morry.

Maury is killed by Tommy with an ice pick to the head.

I like when the music comes in, in the Sicilian scene from True Romance and then builds to that crescendo!

The scene you quote is possibly one of best Movie scenes of all time... makes the hair on my neck stand up every time I see it

The last 15mins of E.T. from those first bass notes as Gertie gives her mother the note right through to the crescendo as the ship flies across the sky as close-up of Elliott's face cuts to black. Cinematic perfection.

    Seconded.

I watched Killing Them Softly last night and not that it's one of the best or favourite scenes the scene where Jackie does the hit with Love Letters playing in a slow motion scene was pretty good in a not so great movie.

Another of my favourite John Williams moments was the journey to the island in Jurassic Park... really sets you up for the adventure, and it doesn't even use any dinosaurs...or any CGI at all in fact. By using the amazing Hawaiian backdrop completely unedited, and with that inspiring music playing over the top it grounds the adventure that follows very much in reality and pulls me into the story :D:p

And as a fan of Hans Zimmer (and yes, of the following movie in question) I realled liked the music playing over the end of the Endeavour in Pirates 3 :D

A less obvious choice but the main theme to District 9 which plays as we see the massive spacecraft over South Africa lends a haunting beauty to a rather gritty film... it's the sort of vibe big sci-fi films like this rarely get to show off because they're too busy blowing up New York, London and Tokyo all the time :p

And this scene showcases the blend of sheer epicness and touching beauty in the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. All three films, and the Hobbit film have amazing scores - this scene exemplifies how the range of it is massive but consistently strong :)

Cruel Intentions - The Verve playing Bittersweet Symphony. To me the best ending for a film, if I watch this I always watch the ending several times.

I agree with this one....amazing ending.

It's one of my favourite soundtracks...that and Baz Lurhman's Romeo and Juliet.

The Halloween theme at the end of the film. Hearing that play as it shows Michael gone and different interior and exterior shots is so effective.

'Tiny Dancer' by Elton John in Almost Famous

'If You Want to Sing Out' by Cat Stevens in Harold & Maude

I've always loved 'First Cool Hive' by Moby being played at the end of Scream.

The scene in The Beach where Richard and the French couple see the beach for the first time, and Moby's 'Porcelain' starts up.

I love that song and whenever I hear it I get the image of that beach in my head straight away. Gorgeous and tranquil.

The opening set-piece of 28 Weeks Later, which culminates in Don abandoning Alice, the music for which is aptly entitled 'Don Abandons Alice'.

Both of our favourites are a reworking of 'In the House in a Heartbeat' from 28 Days Later.

And 'Don Abandons Alice' from 28 Weeks Later.
