This hasn't grabbed me as much as I was hoping. It's probably down to everyone in the main family (bar the young daughter) being bloody annoying - particularly the mother. Will give it another episode, otherwise I think that's it for me.

I find it a bit odd that all the synths look different.

I could imagine the Anita model being a big seller. William Hurt's new synth, not so much. :)

Episode 2 and they havent told us

Who is the guy with the black synth and who is he searching for and why.
Who the hell is Paul Faye
Who is the goody and who is the baddie
    Who the hell is everyone
How is the synth **** connected to anyone

A story is only good if they tell us what the hell it it that we are watching. Crikey

Exactly my thoughts. It seems to be a very slow bruner for 8 episodes.

So is leo and Max both created by Dr george?

I'm not sure who he is but he's searching for Anita as they were in love.

Oh dear the lack of posts on this episode plus this post does not sound good. I was going to watch on +1 but I think I might give it a miss and go to sleep.

I think stretching it out over 8 episodes is a mistake. It also means that many people will be away for the last episode.....

Rubbish, what is the fun in a thriller which reveals everything in the second episode?

'Who is the goody and who is the baddie'? - Must every drama boil down to this?

And it's quite clear 'who the hell is everyone' if you pay attention, it's simple enough to get a decent understanding from the first episode alone. All of the advanced synth (yes, including 'the synth ****') are connected to the guy who is searching for them, he either developed them or got them from somebody originally - however they were all stolen (aside from the black synth) and then sold on, thus one is now in a **** house, one is now in the family's household (Anita)

the mother really is getting on my tits and the bloody older Daughter who's non stop dour expression is all her acting skills appear to be.

I really am enjoying but totally agree the Family are a pain in the arse

I wouldn't trust the things either.

I'm waiting for someone to come along and say the original series was so much better, the son got a blowie instead of just copping a feel.

    I enjoyed tonight.

It is derivative but I think because it's well-written it doesn't take anything away from it.

If there is a flaw I think it may be that Katherine Parkinson (who I usually really like)'s character is difficult to like.

Also did she answer husband when he asked her if something happened while she was away?

He should stick her face under the grill or something.

Did you not watch episode 1? Many of your questions would be unnecessary if you had.
And really - who is the goody and the baddie? Humans isn't aimed at 6 year olds!

I wonder who will have sex with Anita first, the boy or dad?

I did wonder this but how old is the son, if the son was the age of the oldest daughter I'd buy this as a potential way for the show to go but I don't think it'll go that way since the kids seems like 14.

I also think that could all end up being some red herring, like Laura becomes convinced the husband is having sex with Anita but he isn't. I'm also feeling this whole show could end up with Laura in a mental institution, just get that vibe that it could have a whole Basic Instinct ending with her being carted off.

I don't actually buy a sex worker synth would be allowed to simulate rape or being young, given the campaign to ban rape-style porn and combat rape culture I'm sure that would be built in as something they couldn't do even if a man wanted it. I also would have liked them to show male sex worker synths, the whole thing kinda continued the same media line on sex work that we get anyway and the dude looked very stereotypically pedophile.

I kinda wish we saw more of the fallout from the synths taking over the low income work, surely unemployment must be high or are those humans now involved in the synth industry?

I do like the show a lot though, just have those couple of gripes about it.

    Same here.
Rebecca Front was excellent too, as the 'carer' of William Hurt :-D

I hope the series is as good as the original. I'll be watching the tonight's episode tomorrow as I'm feeling very sleepy and tired right now.

I wonder if an economics expert could tell us how likely it would be for expensive robots to take over so many menial jobs that the kids would have no job prospects. How many bosses paying minimum wage could afford to buy/lease robots?

    Me too. She is sinister.

I read up on the original so definitely sticking with it.

The daughter suggested the janitor was 20k worth of school equipment, so thats a pretty reasonable price for someone who only needs to charge overnight, doesn't require holidays, sick leave, maternity leave or lunch hours. So its likely they would take a lot of but probably not all the low paid work.

I'm sure you can pay on some kind of HP agreement or get a synth loan like a car loan though as I doubt the father just popped out and dropped 20k like that.

    Loving this.
It's only occasionally I like dramas/series, usually just one or two a year e.g. Being Human, Happy Valley, In the Flesh, What Remains,

Most of them I can't be arsed with, but this is really good.

I find all the characters really obvious e.g. the pervy teenager, the stroppy daughter, the sad, old men seeking sex-bots, etc. etc.

ETA: and the spider was most unwelcome.

Yeah the stroppy daughter kinda annoys me, its a character we see all the damn time on these shows, reminds me a bit of Homeland, the constant pout on her face.

I think we must look inwards into our hearts to answer this question. We will have to question the value of life and love, and in the end we will realise that life may be able to take many forms, and concioussness and thought may not be the sole possession of only human beings.

Or maybe anyone who dresses all in black and drives a black car will be the "baddie" you are looking for :D
