Send OTC creams to the USA

I was wondering if there would be problems at the customs in the USA if I send a few small tubes (6) of an OTC cream to the USA. The person I'm sending them to (a friend) says apparently they require a prescription there, whilst I bought them here from Sainsbury's over the counter.
I am sending them because even with shipping they work out much cheaper than buying them there.
I was thinking of writing they're creams, without specifying anything. Will I have problems? If they get stopped, do they just dispose of them or return them to the sender?
