My mum complained because all I got her for 'Mothers Day' was a card.

What do you think? :(

A bunch of flowers or box of chocs wouldn't have hurt.

You would think that your mum would know what a tight arse you are by now! :)

Depends what you normally do. Is she in the habit of receiving a gift from you as well? If so, she's bound to be hurt if you didn't do it this year. If not, why would she be surprised not to receive a gift?

If you are five it's very cute and your English is brilliant. Post 16 years old then she hasn't got much to be grateful to you for has she?

If you are in a position to have bought her even a small gift, no matter what it was: it would have a nice gesture.

My mother got a copy of computeractive and a message written on a piece of graph paper. She was delighted.

A card is a gesture, and a sufficient one at that in my opinion.

I'm pleased to have been brought up by a mother who appreciates being loved and appreciated all year round over receiving a 'token' present on Mothering Sunday.

Maybe in your eyes it's a nice gesture - not in mine. A small gift would have been a nice gesture - perhaps I should have used the word 'nice' before the word. Sorted that bit now to save confusion.

I used to be "Rogue277" but I didn't like the name and so I changed it to this one. :)

I only got my mum a card as well, same as the MIL.

I also only get my dad and FIL a card for Fathers Day.

I doubt that the card or it being Mother's Day has got anything to do with it. I would be surprised if you couldn't put your finger on some problem area if you thought about it.
