The library had already closed (one of the reasons it's not convenient for me to get there - with work there's limited time when it's actually open I can get there!) so I just dropped them in the return slot outside.
Crikey - shows how long it is since I used a library - I didn't even know you could do that.
Anyway, best advice has already been given by a librarian - contact them and ask them to check.
