Good people on DS..

My friend is having hell with her eyes and needs a really good Specilist to sort out her double vision .

Her history is complex she has glaucoma she has had two cataract oops and she has wet macular degeneration in one eye she was very short sighted before the oops.
She was prescribed a prism value 5 which worked in the eye hospital but now it doesn't
That was at about 10m, it doesn't work outside? She was not very confident about the dispensing "trainee" at the eye hospital... She really wants someone who has lots of experience

She is a carer for her husband, she really needs the best she can get from her eyes.
She is otherwise in good health.

I would welcome a recommendation or the right search term to find the right Specilist

Tony

Found this on a quick search - Spire private hospital in Southampton - looks like they have several ophthalmic surgeons

Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, high degree of astigmatism and myopia, and double vision to boot. Unfortunately, and to be realistic about it, there won't be much anyone can do, those are very serious and complex conditions, and your friend won't be able to get much help. If she's contemplating going private because she's writing off the NHS thinking they're no good then tread very carefully. Paying for treatment could just be a waste of money - your friend would have had all the eye care possible at an NHS hospital and if they could have worked a miracle to save her eyesight they would have. Sorry to sound so bleak but have seen all this before through working in ophthalmics for a number of years. Best of luck anyway :)
