I bought 3 tins by mistake...
I suppose a lot of people put a spoon in tea
or coffee, too sweet for my taste.

Im wondering , does condensed milk have any other uses ?

I use it all the time for desserts - I could eat it out of the tin with a spoon because it's yummy. If you mix one tin with two tubs of mascarpone cheese until smooth and creamy, you then have a perfect ingredient to make Tiramisu without using eggs or cream. I make it regularly this way and it's a winner with everyone.

I thought they were tins of carnation milk !

thinking about it though, they could probably go in as an ingredient of ice cream ?

When I was young our next door neighbours were a large family of 10. They didn't have much money either and they used to eat big doorsteps of bread with condensed milk spread on them and then sugar sprinkled over the top.

This was often instead of a meal, not in addition to. I guess it just filled them up.

I was told that if you put a can of condensed milk in a pan of boiling water for about an hour it will be like toffee, never tried it as I have never had condensed milk.

Nope, you leave the can intact and just make sure the pan doesn't go boil dry. That's when it will go boom. :D

Would it not be easier just to use caramel Carnation? Same price.

Why not just take them back and swap them for Carnation milk if thats what you wanted to buy?... 3 tins are a pretty expensive mistake to make if you dont like the milk!,

personally i love it, in coffee it's wonderful.......

YES!!! The easiest, yummiest, richest ice cream ever.

    1 pt double cream
    1 tin condensed milk
2 tablespoons of any liqueur or spirit, eg Cointreau, Baileys, whiskey, Malibu, Tia Maria, dark rum - whatever you like - the alcohol stops the ice cream from freezing solid.

Whisk cream til soft peaks (soft not stiff)
Stir in condensed milk and liqueur

Pour mix into an ice cream tub or other suitable container with a lid, place in freezer until frozen, about 3-4 hours.

I've made many variations of this, e.g. after you add the liqueur:

with Baileys add honey & toasted almonds, or crushed raspberries
with Tia Maria add some Camp coffee
with dark rum add some rum-infused raisins
with Cointreau add some finely grated orange zest
with Malibu add some dessicated or grated coconut

    It's always delicious!

We put a can in the freezer for about two days.
When opened it is nearly solid.
Makes a lovely sandwich in doorstop sliced bread.
Bugger the calories, you only live once.

yes Carnation make... evaporated milk.. which is what I thought I was buying at the time
    strange term... evaporated !
But I suppose they are taking quantities of surpus milk and
by boiling in huge vats they are condensing or evaporating it down.
then they put it into tins ( prob add sugar too )

Ordinary milk will last a few days... tinned milk will last for years
( probably had it in the trenches ! )
