Just wonderin'...
The subject of parents in the Whoniverse even for the younger children?
It often seems the case that our 'heroes' are missing their parents [we saw Amy's only briefly at the end of Season 5 & Clara's mother/possibly father too has died]; or we never see them on-screen [Angie & Artie's father was around, but unseen & apparently always working]; or they were stolen away from their parents as in River Song's case. Wasn't Sarah-Jane Smith an orphan by the time she met the Doctor too (for Classic TV fans! )? Finally it seems like a running in-joke that the Doctor doesn't necessarily get on with his companion's mother, at least not until he's gained her trust.
I wonder if there's a subliminal message in there somewhere for us viewers.
