I've been told a few whoppers

    1) Jesus died for our sins.
    2) Everyone is equal
    3) Life is fair
    4) Karma
    5) Saddam had weapons of mass destruction

Number 5 - none were found, but some were used.

While I believe the concept of hell is one of the biggest lies.

It is - it was merely a metaphor Bex.

Religion is the biggest lie that mankind has ever created - a self perpetuating meme that has held humanity back for many centuries.

    Science is the light.

Another one - there is natural justice - nope - there is not.

Ironically, I only realised this on the road to Damascus one year

In contradiction, Religious ritual may have played an important part in the sheer survival of early humans though.

There is a theory that when numbers of Homo sapiens were very low - those who had a gene leading to more 'belief' in the supernatural/Gods/afterlife survived - whilst the rest of humanity died out from sheer despair, misery and desperation at the brutal reality of their world.

Quite simply they could not compete and gave up the ghost (as it were).

Makes a lot of sense to me - hope is a very powerful thing.

I'm quite happy with those theories / guesses, although I think Religion as a bonding exercise for tribes was useful and established rules and a hierarchy.

Not sure it stopped them topping themselves or having a death-wish:-)

I don't like modern prosletyzing and extremist religious doctrine.

Live and let live, and get out of my bloody face!

Then you will burn in Hell.

It's not the first time I've been told that, for merely professing Atheist views.

Other Christian folks want to Pray for Me and See the Light and Open my Heart to Jesus.

Some Muslims would cut off my head

    All quite mad, IMO.

But please don't let me oppress anyone. These are just my personal views and I respect your right to your own.

Not a big lie but another saying which is total bollocks.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

Of course it does - just before lightning strikes.

So during this winter you didn't warm up as you ran around? This occurrence surely would have been reported on and studied? Normally exercise warms a person up.

Clearly, you were not running around. Or if you were, not for long enough.
