Just bought a panasonic tx-p42gt50b and connected it
to my sky hd box.

I tried connecting with my hdmi cable, but this
does not work, so i have had to connect via scart
cable.

Any ideas please? Is it just a case of i need a
new hdmi cable (current one 6 years old); and
if so what is the best type?

Thanks in advance
Graham Jones

Any and all HDMI cables will work - are you selecting the correct HDMI socket on the TV? - HDMI (unlike SCART) 'mostly' doesn't auto-select.

Could be an HDMI handshaking issue for which Panasonic is one brand noted for its vagaries. You could try turning the Sky box on first then the TV.

And it would do no harm to try a different HDMI cable or even just try reversing the existing one.

Have you selected the HDMI ports on the display - set all of them and try each one in turn.
I use all three (on my TX-P42G20B) - BD player, BT Vbox and HD SatBox.
Cheap HDMI cables work better than expensive ones!!
(The weight of the expensive cables tend to disconnect themselves at the TV end)
