i do understand that. however, one composer and lyricists should suffice.
true, but I think a lot of the time, they are assistant composers. So they check it over etc. We'll never really know. But in Alex's and Rihanna's cases, they used writing camps, and that explains the number. Compare it to 21 and Thriller/Off The Wall. The complete opposite.

i am not against writing camps, xenomania wrote some great songs here in the uk. i agreed with that comment in principle, but i don't think it should be the rule.

Neither am I, but less is more, financially and artistically IMO. They work at times, and sometimes they don't. Having one can be a big risk, because a flop for a 2 co-write album (21) is not as bad as a flop for an album like Loud or Good Girl Gone Bad.

i think it depends on the team or songwriter. some are much cheaper than others.
All artists do this and not just Rihanna. Seems very unfair to single her out. This is how the music industry works.
Well just for the record, all artists in the music industry do not do this. Many write their own music and then collaborate with producers in the studio. Artists like Rihanna only represent one side of the music industry but Coldplay, U2, Snow Patrol, Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder, Springsteen, Nirvana and others are much more hands-on writing and playing most of their stuff.
Pop music used to be more about writing and performance, not as important these days..probably why there are so few really good songs these days.
I stated in another thread recently that Rihanna is the product of the ultimate hit factory. The article pretty much highlights it.I just wish that she could take some time off and have more musical/creative input in her next album.
I saw pictures of Rihanna once deciding which tracks were going on her Loud album. Do you think this was all faked to make it look like she was in charge?

No offense, but you do realize 99% of the general public don't care whether or not Rihanna chooses what songs go on her album or not?
People just want catchy pop songs. That's it. They don't care who makes them. Everybody knows Rihanna is not a musician. She's a pop star. Everybody knows she doesn't write most of her songs, etc. It's not a big deal. She's successful because she gets given dozens of catchy pop songs, and the people that make them for her are extremely talented.
Nobody wants Rihanna to be in charge of anything, and nobody expects her to be.

I'm embarrassed to admit this but I quite like her duet with Taylor Swift.
What's there to be embarassed about?
It's a beautiful song
It is and I think I could only describe it as beautiful and that's why I think it's a tad embarrassing.
I think it may just be me
True. Some are cheaper.
It's Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift is three hundred times the recording artist Rihanna is. Don't even try.
Hardly embarassing, is she?
She is easily one of the most talented, respected and top earning female artists around
The song just gets to me and hits a spot and I get all emotional and it's embarrassing so I avoid it like the plague.
Respected? Umm...Teenage Girl's Diary on 3 albums? Oh...you mean like Britney respected. Gotcha.
I figured that must happen. If not explicit payola then, well...dinners, exclusives and gifts.
Is that you, geordielady?
