The outstanding US spy drama The Americans begins on ITV on Saturday 1 June at 10 pm. I hope Brits who haven't already downloaded it check it out.

Unfortunately I think it'll get lost in that timeslot, but I guess it's meant to compete with the BBC4 Scandi-crime and the C5 CSI/L&O slots...
I will definitely give this show a go.
Drama on a Saturday night isn’t really ITV’s ‘thing’, but having said that it probably stands more chance of success in this slot that a 9pm weekday slot where the demand for ratings will be too high or a 10:30pm weekday slot where the ratings will be low already simply due to the late night slot.
My guess is that ITV are hoping for a Homeland style success story with The Americans.
I’ve only seen the pilot episode but I did enjoy it. It captured the 1980’s feel very well, it was like watching an 80’s move at some points.
Looking forward to seeing this.
I watched the first 3 episodes and found myself pretty bored of it.
Does it get better, anyone who's watched it all?
I thought it started great and stayed at that level throughout the season. If you watched the first three episodes and didn't like it, it is simply not a show for you.
Has to be postwatershed and some episodes are too long to fit into an hour. Can't delay the news otherwise ofcom will go apeshit. It's simply the best bad slot they have...
Channel 4 aired season 2 of Homeland on Sundays at 9 pm. That occasionally went past the one-hour mark. The post-watershed type material in The Americans is tamer than what is found in Homeland, so I am not sure I see why The Americans has to start an hour later.
I don't think there's anything too objectionable. In fact aside from a few scenes (the scene of bloody violence in the pilot being the primary one) I'd be happy for ITV to stick it on pre-watershed. Though it does air after family orientated shows, so maybe ITV are being extra cautious.
Maybe ITV are concerned that sticking imports on in primetime will reflect badly...
13 episodes in season one.
It's also already renewed for a second season, which ITV also have the rights for...
You can't compare what Channel 4 do to what ITV do. Its not unusual for Channel 4 have have US imports in a prime slot, but it is unusual for ITV. And Channel 4 don't have to worry about any news being on time.
Good I'm hoping it's good quality and successful one thing I hate is when something gets shown for one season yet never to be heard of again lol
I’m not saying The Americans will fail on ITV, just that the odds aren’t in its favour based on the success rate of previous US dramas on ITV in recent years.
Best Drama; Best Actor - Matthew Rhys; Best Actress - Kerri Russell; Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series - Noah Emmerich.
Winners will be announced June 10 in Beverly Hills.

As said above ITV is the wrong channel for the show given their need for a fixed news at 10pm on weekdays.
They would never put on at 9pm weekdays as it won't get the large mainstream audience they need. Then 10.30pm is too late and would rely on people recording it, hence why Dexter failed. I never look to see what is on ITV after the news and many others are the same. Then Sunday night is family friendly crime and drama shows.
So think I agree with most of you Saturday late night once X Factor and all that type of stuff is finished is their only option.
ITV have really upped therir game recently and I hope this is a winner for them.
