  One of course can save (non HD...) stuff one cannot yet buy from TIVO SCART output via e.g. Aldi £6.99 Envivo HD DVD creator widget to PC HDD/process etc suitably ...

  The answer is yes. You can't do it, directly but if you get a vhs to PC convertor

  you can output as if to a VHS/DVD and capture the stream on PC, which you can then process and convert using software like Handbrake. Results are not 100%, but they're decent.
