I want to give a bit of fan love for BAND-MAID, yes I got into them via Babymetal but these girls really play some great dirty rock n roll songs :

    This is a fantastic song:

I went to that one, I recall someone (a fan) died during their set by slam dancing on his head and the delay seemed to go on for ages. Most inconsiderate of them :)

I remember that very well. Apparently it was all over the news but, of course, in those pre-mobile phone days we knew nothing about what happened until after Maiden's set when it was announced over the PA..

Has anyone else got the new Korn album The Serenity of Suffering? I got it on the release day and I have to say it's probably one of my favourites. They have really gone back to the heavy sound of their earlier albums. I am looking forward to seeing them play some of the new stuff live in December

I've just got back from my first ever Delain gig. Had VIP tickets because I'm all about their latest album Moonbathers and thought why not.

Holy. Gods. They absolutely smashed it out of the park, was front row and there was no barrier so I was leant right up on the stage which meant the band members frequently made their way over to fist bump and high five myself and the other lucky sods who got front row.

Setlist was stunning and damn Charlotte Wessels can SING. Thanks to the VIP package I was also treated to a *very* intimate acoustic set before the show officially started, which was an incredibly cool touch.

One thing that I can't help but wonder is the energy was so intense, the crowd was SO behind them and the band are clearly extremely good at what they do so I'm shocked they aren't a bigger deal. 2000 capacity venues seems to be their size now which is a shame, that set I saw tonight could easily have closed out a festival, it was that good.

I first saw Delain @ Sonisphere in 2010 and I've probably seen them more times than any other band in the last six years.

I'm seeing them in Cardiff in a couple of weeks and then in Amsterdam in December, as you say, they are brilliant live and they'll always come out for a chat after their set, which is cool.

We caught their acoustic set @ Download this year. Charlotte said that was probably only the second acoustic set they had ever done, so it seems like they are making more of that now.

Mind you, November is a really busy month for me! I saw 3 Doors Down last night, I'm seeing Anathema on Saturday, Blues Pills, Lacuna Coil, and The Cadillac Three next week, the following week is Delain and then Opeth, (supported by Anathema!), and then Alter Bridge with Volbeat and Gojira at the end of the month!

I'm extremely excited for Delains hometurf gig in December now seeing as they've bigged it up as their most expansive show to date, I have no idea how they'll top last night but if they do then goddamn we are in for an amazing night.

I saw Blues Pills last week and they were really good! BUT... some of the new material really felt flat live. It's quite clear that on the record there's a lot of layers to the songs that cant be duplicated live due to not having any backing singers and so on and so some of the Lady In Gold stuff comes out a little limp which is a shame, it's a night and day difference between a performance of say "Won't Go Back" and "Devil Man", when the band clearly hit their apex.

DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT: System of a Down, Biffy Clyro, Aerosmith, Prophets Of Rage, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, AFI, Fozzy, Motionless In White, Sleeping With Sirens, Every Time I Die, Of Mice And Men, Simple Plan, The Story So Far.

I already got early bird tickets to Download, but I'm a bit gutted by this line up so far, only Aerosmith is close to worth the money for me, though I'll pop along to Prophets of Rage, 5FDP and Rob Zombie.

I despise SOAD and Biffy, both absolutely awful bands and their popularity alludes me

I know they have a number of special guests lined up for some of the songs and it wouldn't surprise me if Martijn's brother Robert and Sharon Den Adel made an appearance.

It's a difficult one, I think. I saw them a couple of times last year so know how great they are. especially when they go in to free-flow jam mode, but there is this nag in the back of my mind that whilst the second album is superb it will be difficult to come even close to replicating it live.

Hmmm one of the weakest Download line-ups in a good few years IMO. Rob Zombie puts on a great show, Slayer are a staple and Aerosmith are enjoyable crowd pleasers, but very average aside from that.

Any thoughts on the new Metallica songs by the way? I think all three are strong efforts, although the latest one - Atlas Rise - is the weakest of the bunch.

Love Delain, amazing live band and yes she so can sing.
Saw them on their own (Sheffield Corporation) and support to Within Temptation (who are also amazing) at the Manchester 02.
I would happily watch Delain everyday, massively talented, good songs, very good live and Charlotte is so so good.
To be honest i prefer them in smaller venues and i think it would spoil the atmosphere in large arenas, although the so deserve the success.

I saw Blues Pills last night and, although I am biased, I thought they really nailed it.

Unfortunately Kadavar couldn't play because Christoph Lindemann had lost his voice, butBlues Pills were simply brilliant. They opened with Lady In Gold and just went for it. The addition of a second guitarist/keyboard player really helped their live sound, especially on the tracks from the second album.

There are some things you can never tire of listening to, and for me Elin Larsson's singing is one of them. Her voice is quite exceptional and, having met her, you wonder how someone so tiny and softly spoken can have such an amazing singing voice.

I think for me, though, the highlight of the show was High Class Woman/Devil Man, the extending improvisation during High Class Woman shows how exceptionally talented the rest of the band are, those guys can seriously play whilst Elin, when she wasn't singing, was like a whirling dervish, a constant blur of motion, never standing still for a second. One surprising thing was Elin walking on stage wearing boots, she is usually barefoot, but the boots lasted for all of the first song, Lady In Gold, before being discarded!

The other point worth mentioning is they were loud, very loud! Certainly the loudest band I've heard for a good few years, and I wear earplugs! :D

Ah good to hear you had a cracking time! Perhaps I just caught them on an off night or the sound engineer wasn't up to much, because I definitely don't recall it being noticeably loud at all here in Madrid.

I agree though the triple threat we got of High Class Woman, Ain't No Change and Devil Man back-to-back-to-back was by a mile the best part of the show for me too, though Little Sun was similarly cracking. I feel it's a shame they didn't play "No Hope Left For Me" on this tour and also in Madrid they didn't play "Burned Out" (by far my favourite "Lady In Gold track) for whatever reason though everywhere else they seem to have played the entire album.

But oh well, I'm sure they'll be playing a festival here (my moneys on Ramblin Man) next summer so I'll see them again.

Just heard Metallica's new album "Hardwired... To Self Destruct" in full.

It's AMAZING. By a good mile their best album since The Black Album. It's a very groovy album like Load/ReLoad, but also very thrashy and riffy, so not as ponderous as those 2 albums either. Hetfield's voice is the best sounding it's been in decades, the guitar riffs are fantastic! Genuinely awesome stuff. Hammet's solos are really great too (particularly on "Halo On Fire") and both Lars' drums and Trujilio do some great work here too.

I honestly don't think there's a single bad track on the album but the highlights are: "Spit Out The Bone", "Halo On Fire", "Moth Into Flame", "Atlas! Rise", "Here Comes Revenge" and "Confusion".

I hope that the first 3 tracks I just mentioned become live setlist mainstays as they are that good to sit side by side with the RTL/MOP classics.

Anyway yeah, 10/10 album. Everyone check it out when you can. Should have been called "OverLoad" imo, missed a trick there.

Yeah I genuinely think it might be in my Top 3 Metallica albums for me personally, been listening to the songs a couple days now and even the ones that didn't make much impact at first listen (Murder One, ManUNkind, Am I Savage?) have really grown on me, and the rest are just completely top notch.

Honestly this rivals the Black Album for me, which before last week had been my 2nd favourite Metallica album after RTL. Will be curious to see if it can stand the test of time, and also how well the songs hold up live (I suspect they hold up immensely well live)

I think the album is very strong - shockingly so considering we all thought Metallica died after the Black album.

Production aside though I think Death Magnetic is stronger. Lars was less reliant on tub thumping and Kirk rediscovered his mojo. I think that has been lost here.

Yup Kirk is back to his most boring on this album. If you've listened to Metallica before, chances are you recognize all the licks Kirk is doing and he is literally improvising the same 5 or so licks from song to song through the entire album. That's 12 songs in a row of mostly the same "solo"......just lazy. I notice he has no writing credits on this album either (the first time I think?) maybe his heart just isn't in it anymore.

Aside from that issue I'm finding the album 'ok' at best. It doesn't have the power of RTL or MOP, the swagger, hook and melody of the Black album or the groove of the better tracks from Load/Reload. I'm edging towards a 5/10 at the minute I guess - 'Spit Out The Bone' really saves it.

I've read a lot about this album being a return to the Black/Load era - to these ears I'm not getting that at all, If I had to pick an album it reminds me of most I'd say '....Justice' with 'Spit' being the 'One' of the album.

I should just add to the above.... I've been listening to a lot of Dream Theater recently so I can't help but compare Kirk to Pertucci and seriously that isn't even much of a competition even when Kirk is on form, let alone when he seems to be completely lacking motivation like here.

Been banging to Hardwired all morning.

What an album. Deliberate, purposeful and sublime sound and production.

The one minute or so from 4.57 on Now That We're Dead is unlike anything I have ever heard and might just be the best sixty seconds of Metallica we hear.

If this is what eight years of waiting brings us then I am prepared to wait another eight for the next.

Kirk wrote 250 riffs for the album and stored them all on a mobile phone which he lost in late 2014, meaning the whole album had to go off only what Lars and James (and Rob for one song) had planned out. That's why he has no writing credits and his only contributions are the solos.
