    Exactly.

That is why it is dangerous to persecute a section of a society because they hold a different political belief than those in power at the time.

Communists? I feel like I can be pretty assured in my convictions that Communism will never come into high acceptance here in the United States, I could be paddling up the wrong river, but a feeling deep in my gut says otherwise. I think of any country on the planet the United States would be the last and would fall with the most resistance to Communism, but I could be wrong I suppose.

Socialism would never be allowed to flourish in the US, Capitalist vested interests are too strong.

The persecution and incarceration of Left activists is endemic in the history of America.

No it upholds ALL free speech.

That's the beauty of their constitution.
Even the US has libel laws so they dont have full free speech either.
    Thank god for that.

Defamation law is hugely different in the US to what it is in England. Which is why people come specifically to England to file defamation charges. In your system the defendant has the onus of proof, while in our system the plaintiff has the onus of proof. For example I could say bobgob is really an alien wearing a human skin, in the US you'd have to prove in court that you were actually a human, and not an alien wearing a human skin, but in England it's the other way around I'd have to prove that you weren't a human and were an alien wearing a human skin. There's even a name for it it's called libel tourism.

In the context of freedom of speech it means I can say or report anything I want, and you'd have to prove the negative that what I was saying was false. So it's in keeping with freedom of speech.
