Being the same gender makes no difference, but if they're all from the same age-group, it usually goes horribly wrong - a team of all 20 somethings flounders whenever history comes up while the doddery old men teams get confused by pop culture after 1980.
And I take it the presenter is joking when at the end of every show he says "So lets see if one brain (maybe 2 or 3 but usually one!) is better than our 5 Egghead brains"
