I've been with SKY for around 11 years now, and have been on SKYHD+ for the greater portion of that time.
I'm considering moving to the 2TB SKY Q box with 2 minis.
Any advice (pros/ cons against SKY+HD) from those folks on here who have already taken the decision to move to SKY Q?
Cheers

I've had Q since the first day of non-Sky BB installs and definitely wouldn't go back to Sky+HD .
Yes, there are a few bugs in Q, but it's got considerably more stable since the 2.0 release. The added recording capability, plus tablet support, has been extremely useful for me.
Some have had issues with wifi coverage. That seems to be a combination of environmental conditions and some installers not fully understanding the system. If you can hard wire your system (even with external powerline adapters), I doubt you'll have any issues.
I have to agree having has Sky Q since launch day, nothing would make me go back to Sky+HD now.
Little things like the red button disappearing every so often, lack of favourites,, and a bit of a few button pushes to get to the guide.
The snazy posh remote....that's locked away out of reach !!:D
It makes HD+ look like something from the 50's, slow clunky GUI, the ability to record 3 things on a Monday night without having to miss something (that is what pushed me to say yes).
The remote is a bit weird, you go up to go down on the remote (annoys me) apart from that i love it and the pic and sound is way way better, please Sky Dolby Atmos on the UHD.
Oh and why no 4k cricket or golf, other people besides football fans pay for sports you know.
.............And Sky Q is ground breaking, some say
I guess Sky have usage metrics from Sky+HD to determine how widely used these features actually are and haven't bothered implementing those which only a small number to users actually used...
Never got round to ringing them, and with the mutliscreen sub covering up to 4 extra boxes now, I was wanting a mini box for ours and our sons bedroom, but beyond the first mini box at £30, others were going to cost £99 each.
Anyway, was just cancelling a NowTV movies pass before it's £9.99 renewal at the month end, and was offered another 4 months at £3.99/month. So have taken that, and will just let my current Sky deal run till my first year back is up in January, then see what they can offer me then.
We don't have a 4k/UHD TV yet,so would only have been upgrading to SkyQ for the new tech (which I have also read mixed reviews/opinions on), and the extra boxes in other rooms.
That's really annoying. And to make it more confusing, if you just press the ch +/- buttons it goes the opposite way!
I feel exactly the same. I could not be happier with Sky Q. It's incredible.
Is sky q like sky multi room with the other box? Can the MIL watch something different from the mini box while the FIL watches footy on the main sky q box? Would it need to be something that they recorded that she watched on the mini box?
Is the watching on the tablets just like sky go?
Sorry for all the questions!!
Think of the mini box as an extension to the main box.
It doesn't connect directly to the dish, it connects through wireless (or ethernet) to the main box, so the dish is now only connected to the main box.
You can watch separate channels on both boxes, and you can watch recordings on both boxes, all your recordings are stored on the main box, but you can book recordings from either box, and watch on either box. You can even start watching something on 1 box, stop it, go to the other box, and carry on from where you left off.
As for Skyq on the tablet, if you are on the same network, you can watch live channels as well as your recordings on it.
Thanks soda fountain. Can I ask one last follow up? The tablet bit - they use sky go extra to watch stuff when out the house (sometimes live stuff). Can they still do that with sky q on a tablet?
Sadly no you can only watch the Sky Q App whilst you are connected to the same network as the Q and mini are.
:( Do you still get sky go with it? What happens if you are away and want to watch something?
You can still use Sky Go for live viewing when you're away from home. Alternatively, you can download content to your iPad with the Sky Q app and take this with you. We took the series 7 box set of Modern Family plus a few movies to the US this summer and it worked perfectly.
On the whole, we like Sky Q though there have been a lot of issues with connectivity and having to power cycle the mini boxes because they've frozen. Ultra HD is good but would be great to get more sports in this rather than just football. I have now used Ethernet cable for all the boxes as the wifi was too unstable. I'm on BT infinity and have a solid wifi signal throughout the house so not too sure what the issue was.
The up and down channels buttons do just that, go up and down.
The picture-in-picture info bar is the EPG so you go down to go up and up to go down.
On the EPG you go down to go up from 101 to 102.
Thanks. Would you recommend it to two 60+ technophobe almost pensioners who will be relying on me (can find my way around tech stuff but not great) for help if it goes wrong?
Should they wait till any buggy issues are sorted?
Thanks again
In all honest Aidy, a lot depends on how well the Sky engineer sets you up with the initial install. If you're in a large house then the wifi for the mini boxes may cause issues. However, for the most part, problems can be sorted by simply unplugging the boxes from the mains and then turning back on.
I do like Sky Q but it does have it's buggy issues as you say. Personally, I'm happy with the upgrade from HD multiroom and would recommend it to you. You could always give us a shout on the forums if anything goes wrong. I'm sure there are some Sky Q experts out there
No need to go round the back and pull the mains lead out, or switch off at the wall.
You can also use the sky q app for sky go. When you are off the network and open sky q app it directs you to sky I'd login and opens sky Gowithin the sky q app.
when i keep my finger on the power button it turns the tv off Q box stays on. have been trying this every time there has been a issue. so the only way i can do this it by taking out the power lead and plunging it back in to reboot system
Kind Regards
Dom.....
