Are these known for being noisy?
Just got one of these mega-cheap (brand new boxed, just old model getting shifted from the warehouse), which arrived yesterday.
I know its not the best going, but its merely to plug a gap until HD-DVD ~v~ Blu-Ray sorts itself out, and on the whole it performs quite well; picture is very stable, and better at handling dark scenes than our old Pan was. CD Audio is the real surprise, its actually quite good (for a DVD player). However, when playing back DVD's, the player seems excessively noisy - I can hear it from the other side of the room, with the volume up on the TV. It sounds like laser noise as opposed to disc clamp/motor noise, but I can't be 100% certain without digging it out and opening it up (further into the warranty, maybe). On CD playback it is much much quieter. Is this normal?
