Is it wrong to still like Gary Glitter Songs

I was a big fan of Glitter from his early days. Whilst I now detest the man and his behaviour, I still like his music.
If I listen to it now I feel dirty and want a shower afterwards, but I still find myself unconciuosly singing along.

Is it wrong to like Amy Winehouse's music because she's a junkie and her money helps fund gangs, terrorism and death squads?

    Who knows.

Well so long as you don't buy any more, and risk him getting more money, I suppose you can keep listening.

Just remember that the correct answer to "Do you wanna be in my gang?" is a clear and categorical NO!

I am a big fan of that Galm Rock Stuff from the early 70s. Its cheesy but catchy, and I grew up with it.
I like Sweet, Mud and Marc Bolan as well.

ok, not so sure about mud - they were definitely cheesy - The Sweet and TRex's music was and remains fantastic! GG was never in their league and hence relied on OTT showmanship to keep a career going.

you grew up with them, i did as well - you gotta agree GG was always a bit of a laughing stock - it was only in the 80s that he got a fan base going of old crustys who were on a nostalgia trip and went to his Xmas concerts every year.

Me to,there was nothing like it before. My Mum was shocked by it all but I remember my late Dad loving Tiger Feet by Mud.

I was watching Small Soliders with my 4 year old daughter and a GG song came on.At first I started to sing along then I remembered who sang it and felt sick.So I don't think it is wrong to like old GG songs but I could not imagine ever being able to like them again.

The same thing happened when the Michael Jackson trials were going on. I remember people looking at me like I was endorsing his behaviour when i was listening to one of his old songs on itunes!

I still listen to and enjoy Michael Jackson's music, although what he's become does always linger in the back of my mind.

Like any genre though, there were serious glam artists and those that were considered 'glam-lite' even then.

Glitter, along with Mud and a few others were in the latter.

The former, which is the glam that has lasted, and superceded its origins, would include Bolan, Slade, early Bowie, early Roxy Music...

I hate his music (and always have) but even if I liked it the thought that the royalties from his music funded his sick lifestyle would be enough for me to bin all of it.

Maybe I could do that. Then DL everything for free, that way he won't get a penny but I'll still have the songs.

Guilty of being an old crusty :o Used to love the Christmas concerts - used to go along with old school mates and we'd all laugh and smile so much our faces hurt at the end. Yes, it was trashy rubbish - but great sing-a-long songs "I love you love, you love me too love etc" perfect for the festive season.

Felt disgusted and sickened when the news about him downloading child porn came out - but additionally felt betrayed - as though I'd been duped, and further horrified to hear that the sick old man had been abusing young girls.

Crazy that we 'fans' invest so much faith in the peformers - and we really have no idea what kind of people they actually are.

However - double drum beats on "Rock & Roll Parts 1 & 2" were just the sound of 1972 for me - and always will be.

The amount of news that Grubby Glitter has taken up, I'm surprised he didn't leap off the plane singing, "Hello, hello, I'm back I'm back."

Not the organ sound in Crazy Horses? The opening of Layla? Popcorn by Hot Butter?

Slight difference - you could say the same of everyone whose ever bought a dodgy cd or knock off handbag - the crime link is not really the same.

Personally I understand where the OP is coming from but don't understand where the music is as no one plays GG songs anymore - since his first arrest i have never heard any of his songs on the radio or in bars or anywhere - unless he plays them in the privacy of his own home in which case, you can like whatever you please. :)

I'm amazed that Gadd is allegedly still making £50k a year from royalties on his 'music'. WTF?

Oasis did a cover of one his songs didn't they? It was years ago before he got arrested. He'll get royalties from that.

Bit of a lyric misquote here? I thought it was "It's good to be back, it's good to be back".

You can't help what tunes you find catchy. I'm still partial to a bit of Mud myself.
