Whats your MOST favourite Guitar riff or intro?

I have many favourite Guitar riffs but the one which has long remained my most favoured is Led Zeppelins "Black Dog".

What i then like to do is scour YouTube for the best cover by non-professional guitarists.

This is a "Black Dog" cover instrumental only (no vocal). It helps that the guy is not only a damn good Guitar player, he also plays it on a Gibson Les Paul!

What's your favourite and is there a quality cover on YouTube?

I don't know much about guitars but I'd say the one in Freebird. Is that a riff?

Those for the Sweet tracks Love Is Like Oxygen; Fox on the Run; Action. Also, the one for Feels Like The First Time, by Foreigner.

    Man, so many.

Sweet Child O'Mine's main bridge riff is AMAZING considering Slash was off his tits on heroin at the time.

    Special mentions though for....

    Voodoo Chile
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (virtually impossibly to copy even by the finest guitarists)
Life On Mars - simple, but very effective
most of Nile Rogers' Chic work - it's completely iconic
    Heartbreaker by Led Zep
D'Ya Know What I Mean by Oasis - Noel's best solo IMHO

    I could go on.....

The one in the chorus of Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.

Or the one in Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits. The guitar actually sounds like it's weeping. Classic.

5-7-0-5, by City Boy, and Don't Pay The Ferryman, by Chris De Burgh, both contain great guitar riffs.

I wouldn't call it a riff but 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica makes me emotional. Its simple but effective.

the whole song is ace, but the guitar really tells a story.

    Yep....Lynryrd Skynyrd.
Got that on a 12" double A sided single (Sweet Home Alabama on the other).

Can we include guitar solos or bridges? If so, the solo from "Another Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd is great.

Most of my favourites are by John Squire.

    Waterfall - Stone Roses
    Love Spreads - Stone Roses
Love Is The Law - Seahorses

I quite like "Over The Hills And Far Away" by Led Zep too. Jimmy Page was just a dictionary of great riffs through the 70's.

Sweet Child O Mine...of course, I did go through a period when I could no longer stand it anymore because I had played it to death. Thankfully I'm over that now and can enjoy it again.

I can't listen to it because it was played at a mate's funeral who died at the age of 22 from complications due to Cystic Fibrosis. It is just associated with that for me, even 21 years later.
