CV advice please...

I've had conflicting advice on this so I thought I'd pose the question here

Do you put the letters after your name (BA or BSc) at the top of your CV after your name? Or just put your name, with your qualifications shown further down the page in the 'education' section?

Personally I shove them down under education - I despair when I see people using them before and after names - but that's personal preference.

Ultimately they are just interested to know your level of education - but beware appearing a little precious - unless, of course, the degree is absolutely fundamental to the application.

So calling yourself doctor when applying for a medical position is quite different from calling yourself doctor because you have an unrelated Phd

I don't put it at the top after my name I just put my degree etc in the education section of my CV.

To be perfectly honest I think it makes you look a bit of a nob if you do put it after your name at the top. Or at least people I've met who do that have been nobs. :D

Lets face it the world and his wife has a degree now so its not like its anything unique.

Yea like the others have said, I put my degree in the education section. Personally I think putting BA after your name looks a bit poncy :p

:D Yes that's what I was afraid of! i haven't got them there at the moment but a friend said that she always puts her degree after her name.

Thanks everyone - I'll leave them in the education section

Definitely don't put degrees after your name. Like someone said, you look like a bit of a knob if you do :D

If you have an MA, some people don't even put that there. A PhD, yes, definitely...

Surely people would know you have a PhD as you would demand they refer to you as Doctor Diamondl1fe?

They might think you're B.A Baracus

I don't - but I do sit on specialist panels assessing job applications to draw up shortlists for interview. Putting degree details after your name suggests that's how you identify yourself, rather than having a well-rounded personality and outlook built on all experience, not just higher education achievement.

In other words above, yes, it does look a bit nobbish. You might just fail to make the cut if someone like me, who doesn't call themselves Mrs OldBag Here 10 O levels, is looking at the applications.
