The Magic Cottage was one of my all time favourite books. One of those you can just keep going back to and it's still fresh. A great storyteller, will be sadly missed.

Real shame and a bit of a shock. I vaguely remember a radio interview (must be at least 25 years ago) on Liverpool's Radio City - he was asked did he frighten himself when he was writing and I believe his answer was yes - but he answered in a very colourful, funny way.

I've read The Fog, The Rats, The Lair, The Survivor and The Spear (I have to say my favourite was The Survivor). I read Moon recently and was a tiny bit disappointed - it didn't scare the hell out of me the way the others had. I think I'm going to have a go at some others though now - my brother-in-law has read EVERY one of his books and he recommended The Magic Cottage(?) I may give The Dark a try too.

    I've only just read this.

I've read every one of his books - a great horror writer.

    Rest in peace James.
