Could this be a competitor to Radio Jackie

Not really, Radio Jackie is a total music station, Brooklands offer something very different.

According to the write up the station was turned down for an FM licence in 2010 and has survived online ever since.

    Fair play to them.

I am in the next town to their HQ and really wish i'd volunteered but just never got around to it.

They have done a couple of FM broadcasts under a TSA. Their main local completion is Radio Wey who broadcast from Ashford St Peter's Hospital.

I wish them well, there's recently been a lot of encouragement to get these local community stations onto DAB.

Guildford's Kane FM won the licence as did Insanity from Egham. I like Brooklands however can they really afford DAB?.

    It's a one month trial.

Good luck to them and it's good to see these trials happening even if they are just that. MuxCo must be doing something right as there appears to be more community radio activity on their multiplexes compared with others. (Although MKFM on Now HBB is a notable and successful exception).

Seems muxco have a diferant attitude to the others ?.
A lot of other multiplex operators do have spare capacity that they could make available as short term contracts for community radio & instead of stations running fm RSL broadcasts on FM ?.
I do think if a MUX has spare capasity it should be made available (not free but at reasonable cost for community radio on short term .

We are indeed! Looking forward to it :) I agree with the discussion on how it is great getting community stations on DAB. Gets the community stations out there even more and allow them/us to really achieve what we want to do.

Arqiva/NOW Digital have probably done the most of any mux operators over the years to get community stations on DAB. The Voice, Voice FM, Black Cat Radio, Affinity Radio, MKFM, Angel Radio to name just a few.

It's great to see even more small stations on DAB.

Also seems to want to go on DAB full time.
Would think the chances of getting an FM licence in the community round 3 slim and an AM licence will not be cost effective and limited for the future. (Local uni station Insanity moved from AM to use the last apparent suitable FM frequency in the area)

Notice local hospital Radio Wey has applied for a DAB mini mux, it was also refused an FM licence in round 2 due to lack of suitable frequencies.

It will be interesting to see how it works for Brooklands, good luck to them.

Notice that Redstone in Redhill are still not back on the mux, despite indicating they would be.

Must be over three months now since they died.

Will make sense for the teams at Brooklands, Redstone and other Surrey hospital or student stations to get together to get a Surrey wide community DAB station on air full time as it does not look like there will be any FM frequencies offered in the 2015 applications for community radio?

    That sounds sensible in principal.

However, some of the 'characters' involved with at least one of the stations in Surrey, would make it impossible for the others to come together. Or, if they did, it would all end in tears.
