Why do people wear sunglasses when it's not sunny?

And not just 'not sunny' but overcast and cloudy. None of that 'oh the scattered light is so bright it hurts my eyes'. I see numerous people driving around where I live wearing sunglasses on a miserable, grey day.

WHY??

Edit: often seen driving BMWs, Audis or SUVs.

because they are fashion accessories to these people rather than a practical screen for sunlight.

    Because they're cooler than you.

I wear them all the time. Even in bed.

    I'm wearing them now.

    And now. Lovely juicy sunglasses.

I wear mine in the bath sometimes. Plus, I prefer to approach it from the 'why Not?' point of view.

It's not a case of getting worked up. I just want to know what, if anything, is going on within their tiny brains.

Polarised sunglasses get rid of reflections on water and, as a result, make vision much better in rainy or humid driving conditions.

I guess BMW, AUDI and SUV drivers are smart enough to know this.

I wear my sunglasses at night,
So I can, So I can,
Watch you weave then breathe your story lines,
And I wear my sunglasses at night,
So I can, So I can,
Keep track of the visions in my eyes.

Their future's bright. Their future's orange
.... because they're booked in for a San Tropez down the tanning salon!

Some people wear them because they haven't had time or been arsed to sort their eye makeup out, particularly in the morning. Also if they've had a rough night and their eyes look shot.

They have eye problems or suffer from light sensitivity.

I actually wear sunglasses while driving at night - because the glare from headlights (and even worse flashing blue lights on ambulances/police cars) can give me headaches.

So it may not be vanity - it may be because of eye issues.

And even if it is 'vanity' then who cares?

I think sunglasses generally make anybody look just a little bit cooler :)
