Still wish the 65+ group could be broken up into more managable smaller groups you can live for more than 40 years after 65 that like lumping all the 25-64 groups together so of course the 65+'s are going to be the biggest number of people watching.

Really impressive rating for inside Death Row last night. A 5 million average in itself is very good, but what stands out most for me is the growth across the hour, as shown in the 15 minute breakdown too:

    21:00 - 4.54m (18.2%)
    21:15 - 4.98m (20.1%)
    21:30 - 5.15m (20.9%)
    21:45 - 5.23m (21.5%)

Also, it had 1.1m 16-34s watching. Silent Witness had 539k at the same time, and just for a bit of perspective, last Sunday's Dancing on Ice performances had 1.09m

Was idol heavily advertised? Surely 165k is an average figure for 5*, and for a two hour programme wouldn't be too bad? Plus if ITV2 wanted rid of it, it was probably going cheap anyway.

It got 539k for Ten last night and was 4th highest show of the night in the 16-39 demo with 211k.

On another note Marco Pierre White joins Masterchef on Sunday, has no one told Ten that he usually results in a large viewer turn off rather than turn on?

I only watch CBB on C5 and there was an advert shown of Idol at least 7 (or something like that) times during an hours episode. Considering CBB has been getting 2 million viewers everyday, I think that rating for Idol isn't great.

I haven't got round to watching it but I did see Trever's other documentary -- the Mighty Mississippi which was fascinating to say the least.

Documentaries on ITV have really gone up a notch the last year or so. Really looking forward to the Murdoch one, does anyone have any idea when it'll be broadcasted?

Let's not get carried away. MCDonald is not John Pilger, and there is still an obsession with anything documentary related being fronted by a celebrity, making it more like a travelogue.

In fact anything new on ITV seems to be celerity related to get the green light...

Anything for Coming Out on C5 last night after CBB?

    CBBC's new series 'Dani's Castle' started well with 438k (2.8%) - Blue Peter followed with 257k (1.4%).

A new episode of The Big Bang Theory on E4 had 1.86m (7.5%) inc +1.

American Idol made a poor start on 5* with just 165k (0.7%). CBB Live followed with 199k (1.1%).

5* is unwatchable on satellite, six feet from a 47" screen, so after watching previous years in HD on ITV2 HD, it won't be watched any more here.

Shame they can't do a Five HD repeat or put the HD version on Demand 5.

Very poor start for Idol on 5* considering the heavy promotion. They've been trailing it quite a lot during CBB so I was expecting higher. For some reason it's being simulcast on Channel 5 tonight after CBB. Will be interesting to see what kind of impact that has.

Incidently FG is aired at 6pm in Australia somtimes with little cuts, but its the same with Channel 4 and Angel they showed that at 6pm even though it was clearly more grown up then Buffy. The DVD's i have rate some episodes 18+. They chopped the episodes up so they were unfollowable, no wonder everyone switched off

Of course, when they were showing Angel they were as part of a short-lived T4 Friday strand with T4 links before and after the programme - almost certainly because they had to edit them so much they wouldn't fit the hour otherwise. Angel, along with Futurama and The Cleveland Show, is another example of C4 buying follow-ups and spin-offs to popular shows that just remind people they don't have the more famous original (although I like Futurama a lot).

That looks lower than ITV's usual prison shows. So I wouldn't say it was 'really good' tbh especially given the promotion.

"Usual prison shows"? They don't have a series about prisons, it was a documentary about death row. A while back they did a documentary about Strangeways (which for all its grimness, is not death row). Should we compare its ratings to Bad Girls?

You may as well compare Splash to the Olympic Games as they both involve diving.

I doubt that had much to do with it, but okay. 5* broke the million mark with CBB Live last year so it can't be that unwatchable. Of course, if you watch almost exclusively HD stuff only, it will appear worse.

    5USA had another strong night:

    2000 CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: 325k (1.3%)
    2100 CSI: NY: 303k (1.2%)
    2200 NCIS: 377k (2.0%)
    2300 NCIS: 329k (3.3%)
    0000 CSI: NY: 238k (5.0%)

Well it can't hurt can it. It almost has a second chance now to find an audience.

Remember it only did 400k or so for the premiere on ITV2 last year and given ITV2 reaches about 3 times as many viewers, last night's result didn't surprise me that much. They were certainly expecting more though, I'm sure of that.

Its not C5 fault its done badly. Its a dying show and frankly most people in the UK are not interested in the US versions of talent shows.

Yes, it was certainly losing steam on ITV2. With that in mind it's an understandable drop, although as you say they must have been expecting more with the promotion they gave it. TBH once Simon left I think it lost its appeal in this country, and there's a sense of fatigue surrounding these shows in general.

Its a complete whiteout where I am in the midlands, i have had to come home from work as the roads I use are already treacherous. Should see some big regional tv ratings tonight. Great scores for BBC News progs yesterday.
Schools are shutting up shop early in Northants even though it's only snowing lightly and that is all that is forecast for here. Quite extraordinary really. The wide nature of the disruption will certainly fuel more big news audiences.

The ratings of Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor show that MOST people aren't interested in the UK ones either!!
