Pot Noodle’s take on the World Cup’s Brazilian location is a talking beach towel that leers at women in skimpy bikinis, which has prompted 94 complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority and a deluge of objections on social media.

A Unilever spokeswoman said the advert was intended to be “tongue-in-cheek” but that since “a number of viewers did not appreciate it”, it will no longer be broadcast in its current form.

I suspected that might happen.

    PMSL!

Some people have too much time on their hands

if they feel so offended with that they may as well ask for half of films and tv programmes to be banned

    it made giggle personally

Object has complained to the Advertising Standards Authority, asking them to review the Pot Noodle 'Paul the Towel Man' advertisements as we have received a lot of feedback from women who do not agree that the imagery and language used around 'scoring' on the beach is funny. There is widespread public concern and media coverage of commercial sexual exploitation during the World Cup 2014. Do you agree?

There will come a day where any reference to men finding women sexually attractive will be considered sexist.

    Oh dear.

Does no one have a sense of humour anymore?

We must be the most uptight, miserable nation in the developed world.

No, it's just that thepathetic individuals at the ASA always take the side of the minority. If 94 sad little people complained, then that means that ~65,000,000 didn't.

They do matter. It takes only one complaint and an advert can be withdrawn. Of course, the ad has usually been out a while, but now some call for ads to be checked before release.

Britain is on many fronts turning into a highly censored state.

Well the ASA cant be that busy then (which must be a good thing) if they will turn one complaint into a case...its all so terribly sad....men fancy women and vice versa, there was nothng filthy or leery in that ad or demeaning of women, in fact I found it the opposite, it was actually fairly funny....oh and everyone on any beach will check out others bodies....whatever

The ASA approved of this advert though:

They claimed that because the intention was humour and most people would see it as humour that it was fine. A standard they've never applied elsewhere.

How come 94 complaints get listened to but millions of people who said nothing (accepting ad for what it is) get completely overlooked & ignored. But then it is a vile product that should never been allowed to be produced in the first place

It's handy having this place not far up the road, means I can get a large box of Nissin ramen noodles that are 100x better than Pot Noodles.

Pot Noodle should've realised by now that feminists aren't renowned for their sense of humour.

Lmfao that's hilarious. I don't think it was sexist, but definitely inappropriate before 9pm.

also its been shown on daytime tv

if you look asa complaints on adverts they ordered to be withdrawn you'll see it sometimes takes just 1 complaint for them to side with the complainer and asa says the advert "can cause widespread offense" as a justification

    asa isnt fit to exist
