It occurred to us at work today that none of us could think of any good or funny holiday or travel shows on TV at the moment? Are we missing out or being ignorant? Have you got any suggestions.

That's what I mean do producers not think we like holidays any more... On the other hand there are a lot of wedding shows. Where's all the other aspirational TV?

Good plan. They had Louis Theroux and Stephen Fry in America, that kind of thing.

I used to really like The Holiday Show with Penny Junor

They would do sensible things like take one of the Balearic Islands, rate the beaches, nightlife etc and then give advice such as, "If you want good nightlife, go here or here, if you want peace and solitude, go here, if you want an upmarket resort . . ." etc

Really useful information and about the places people actually went on holiday!

Some of the other travel shows seemed to get more and more extreme or specialist. Fine if you wanted a week bungee jumping over virgin rainforest in January, not so useful if you want a week away with the kids in the summer holidays

I like The Secret Tourist when that is on. I also used to like Holiday Showdown.
Thomas Cook, Thomson and Sky Travel also used to have their own channels on satilite tv but they're not on anymore.

Departure Lounge, with links done live from Manchester Airport on a Friday night, with Nick Knowles, Angelica Bell and the legendary Simon Calder.

They should SO do this again

That show was on for many years. It started way back in about 1974 and ran till about 2006.

Was a good show. Along with Wish You Were Here, these programmes should never have been axed. They were shown in a 7pm slot once per week(not all year round). Nowadays in those slots every week night we get The One Show and Emmerdale.
