So if they are not British what are they ?
    Falklanders.
Lets face it they no one had a clue they even existed before the war,I still remember when the Invasion was announced plenty of people thought Argentina had invaded one of the Isles off of Scotland.
Can't be bothered searching now but wasn't there a poll done where they came out and said they did not think of themselves as British? And quite honestly why should they

Did they do it deliberately ? the show purchased three cars and this was the existing plate of one of those cars.

But how many cars did they look at before choosing this one, as well as the only 2 cars, with the number of dead on both sides, shame on them, The Beeb should keep to it's word and sack JC now.

All this "sack them" and "you must apologise" is becoming a joke now, this country has fast turned into a bunch of armchair Miss Marples who feel they can solve crimes from the comfort of their armchairs, decide who is guilty of a crime , decide who will be next to be arrested for a crime, and worst of all become professionally offended at anything. It is like a form of hysteria, the boss at John lewis had to apologise to France today for his comments about France , this man is not an elected politican he is a person working for a private company ( owned by its staff) speaking at a company event why the hell did he have to apologise for toungue in cheek comments to an entire country, it is bizarre.

just because some people may not know where a place is does not mean we allow another country to invade it . As for feeling Brirish they wanted to stay a BOT in their referendum

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21350571

According to the Falkland Islands Government: "We are not a colony of the United Kingdom; we are a British Overseas Territory by choice, which is something entirely different. We are not governed by Britain: we are entirely self-governing, except for defence and foreign affairs."

The referendum turnout was 90% and the vote to remain a BOT was 99.8% voting Yes.

But in JC, it has gone beyond a joke, maybe this was not as bad, but mumbling the 'N' word when he thought the camera was not on him as he said that song, was enough for me on top of everything else... He is a dinosaur, and with all the other problems the Beeb has, this would be a good time get rid.

No, just a very naughty boy!

Glad you said it. Thought had crossed my mind, lol.:D

Yeah, just for publicity. For the TG team, especially him, any publicity is good but I refuse to be OUTRAGED by juvenile pranks.

I think this is now completely out of hand and ridiculous, the three cars have all been attacked whilst they were being driven by people trying to force them off the road in vans and cars and attacking the cars with with bricks and pick axes , the crew van was attacked with two crew badly injured. The locals were shouting ‘Burn their cars, burn them, burn the pirates’ and they have posted on Twitter “We’re going to make a barbecue with their meat.”

It is now being claimed by a local councillor (doing his best to whip up more anger) Juan Manuel Romano that in addition to the plate they feel Clarkson chose deliberately that the other two drivers have also chosen deliberately offensive number plates , Richard Hammond is driving a car with the plate that includes the numbers 269 the councillor says this is a reference to the 255 british killed ???? and that James May whose plate is EKH 646J is actually referring to the 649 Argentiians killed in the confilct. It is a joke and pathetic if you ask me. And the state were very much behind whipping up the anger it would appear and they did nothing when mobs circled the hotel other than order the entire crew to leave the country.

Clarkson did thank those Argentinians who actually helped them and the many who apologised for the behaviour of others.

Why does Clarkson get blamed for everything that involves Top Gear. Surely the producer/director should take the blame. All this hysteria regarding Clarkson would be funny if it wasn't so sad and pathetic.

Well as it was his company that produced Top Gear, before he sold it back to the Beeb, he still has a major say in what happens in the programme, so yes he is to blame.

Is he also to blame for them deciding that the other two plates were offensive when they clearly are not and to blame for people attacking them and the crew ? Sorry but as much of an idiot he may be at times I think not.

Since a scimitar is a curved sword used for beheading even your username could be seen as offensive, and inappropriate, by some.
    ...
The scimitar is also used in Saudi Arabia as an executioner's tool for beheading.
    ...

Any plans to change your name?

No, nothing to do with a sword, it is one of my cars.. And what a car it is.. They don't make them like that anymore. British workmanship at it's best, a real head turner

One would imagine because John Lewis are trying to launch services in France, and he naturally wants French people to buy from John Lewis. i.e. it was a commercial decision.

This is not really the correct forum, but surely by their own logic, the "Argentinians" should give the land back to the aborigines the Spanish took it from in 1512.

The Argentinais led by that harridan have one rule for them and one for everyone else, they tried to take the Picton, Lennox and Nueva from Chile when they found it might have gold and opil on them , they claim to be angry at this incident with the car but deliberately made their Olympic video to try and offend but they think that ok

    http://www.theweek.co.uk/olympics/falkland-islands/46642/argentina-claims-falklands-disrespectful-olympic-video

'To compete on English soil, we train on Argentine soil' says stirring advert, filmed in 'Las Malvinas'

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-17946838

He also accused Argentina of trying to "politicise the Olympics in service of its territorial ambitions".

"It is deeply sad to see Mr Zylberberg clambering over a war memorial. Sadly this illustrates the disrespect the Argentine authorities have for our home and our people," Mr Hansen said.

So the Argentines are happy to commission a promo film for the 2012 Olympics where they show one of their athletes training on the Falklands - including using a memorial for the fallen as a bench - and state that they're training 'on Argentine soil'. But Top Gear can't turn up in a car with a number plate that references the same conflict?
