Potentially this could be a very entertaining and likeable couple.

I'll start this off with a guess of some music we might see.

Rumba to Bird of Paradise by Snowy White?

Cha Cha to Werewolves of London?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha7t4dVTl40

Tango to Elephant by Tame Impala (leaving out the instrumental bit in the middle)?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnKUD_OztRE

Jive to Serpentine by Kings of the Sun?

Charleston or Quickstep to I Wanna be Like You from Jungle Book?

Ground Zero - off to a good start.

Steve said he was looking forward to doing the Paso. It should be a dance that would suit him and Ola may go for a classic Paso rather than like her excellent version of a Paso with Chris to I Believe in a Thing Called love.
This is a bit too short, but otherwise sounds good for a classic Paso.

I think this is a great pairing, looking forward to some great choreography from Ola!

OK, I'm in. I confess (and hope this doesn't offend anyone) this has been my pair where I've been thinking, uhhh, I don't quite get the Pro. More her choreography rather than her dancing or teaching. But to hell with it, that's just another prejudice to overcome.

I really want to see how blokey-bloke Steve and girly-girl Ola do.
    Me Tarzan, you Jane.

Me too! I've liked some of Ola's music choices too - back in the years when I think she was choosing all of it.

Steve is an opportunity to do something different costume-wise too. There are a lot of ceremonial tribal clothes, beadings, fringes, skins, feathers, body paint, war paint that will suit a theme for him and be unique on Strictly. Might make them stand out from the crowd while making Steve feel more at home.

Has this ever been used on SCD?

    nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah
Could work with the animal theme.

Scratch that. I've just remembered Chris Parker's thingy

    They are my top two.

I like Jennifer and Thom but really don't like Mark Wright and Alison Hammond. Steve said he needed Ola because she will push him. you feel easier looking at Steve then the others.

    Good luck to them!

I think there is a case for Ola having used limited choreography, but she has had a long series of celebs who were limited in ability.
This was a case of getting a good looking first dance without having to teach much technique. Tango would be a difficult first dance if you tried to get all the technique right.

I doubt if it has been used. It would work well for a Jive, but is a bit repetitive.

Fortunately I didn't see Chris Parker on Strictly.:D

It was used back in series 1, apparently. If cruel, I'd post the link. ;-)

The video is bad quality but the dancing... :o

    Steve tweet.

Off out for a sunny bike ride to limber up for my first rehearsals with @The_OlaJordan samba in the saddle...

I hope that doesn't mean they are starting Steve off with a Samba:o - basically the most difficult dance of the lot and him a complete beginner!

Its also a favourite dance of Ola's so I would have thought she would want it later in the show.

    First day at work.

If they are starting off with a Samba, the predictable song would be

    The Lion Sleeps Tonight
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V9v94cPXak
and that would be about the only half-sensible reason the producers would give Steve a difficult Samba in week 1.

A more unusual Samba song might be Scatterlings of Africa?

ITT should have no trouble filling Steve and Ola interviews.

Steve is just back from a holiday with a couple of his climbing friends to the Arctic where he carried a 35kg pack for 8 days to get to this mountain and then spend 27 hours non-stop climbing it - including through the night - just for fun.

    Good article about Steve.

The jump at the start of this Bond film was from Mount Asgard, but 'James Bond' needed a helicopter to get him up there.

What a lovely article. Thank you Pet Monkey. He seems such a sweet man. I hope he and Ola are going to get on well. I hope Ola isn't going to be too fed up by all the bad press, etc, and will really put her all into it. That isn't at Ola, I think she's great, but anyone can get fed up.

I bet they will have some animal/jungle songs but I hope they don't make them overdo that.

I had no idea you knew him that well. :o:p:)

The theme works for a salsa though. The tempo is good although it doesn't have the right ambiance for me. Its on the slow side but one could make it work and is no worse and in fact much better than many tracks they choose for salsa.

In a way it's good for Ola to have to work and to have the buzz of the show starting, to keep her mind off some of the reactions BB is causing. My guess is that Steve will need so much training-up and teaching of the basics that he'll be an effective and good distraction for her.

As for Steve, I want to have his life and his energy. Mount Asgard looks stunningly beautiful.

At least we know now he'll cope with Zoe and the SCD innuendo.

Found the kimono dragons he was talking about here:

    http://youtu.be/gcTg9mt4eAk

The striking thing, after the whole team has had to run away, is how he keeps talking to camera with those beasts prowling round them. Self-possessed kind of guy and, this one might be a transferable skill for dancing, used to working cooperatively in a team

Steve also seems to be able to talk to the natives in their language?
The Komodo has a venomous bite that puts it's victim into shock and makes them bleed fast, so any bite would be very dangerous. They kill deer and pigs but also attack water buffalo and as Steve said, can kill humans too.

Haha, just noticed I wrote kimono dragons :D:D:D a strictlified version of the beast

That bite and release method of hunting explains their behaviour with the smell of blood. It'll all help with Craig

Exactly! - they follow the trail of blood to find their victim.

I'm really hoping Steve can learn to dance as to me, Strictly is stuck in a rut. Steve opens possibilities for new and interesting music and choreography. That's the sort of change I want to see - not some Chihuaua showing that it hasn't got a clue who is going to be eliminated.

Kind of know what you mean. The graceful, already-knew-how-to-dance people win. The no-hopers entertain us. The folk in the middle who might learn get elimated the soonest. There doesn't seem to be a lot of patience for what is actually the best part -- the learning.

Even with contestants such as Mark Benton last year who, despite weight and a messed up knee, was really giving it a go, got pushed into doing cartoon-style rubbish at the end. His earlier dances were moving, for all sorts of reasons (relationship with Iveta/his limitations/his real ability to connect) and it was sad to see the Goldfinger nonsense.

I hope none of that happens to Steve who will throw himself into the experience, without doubt.

Though (shhh on the MF! :o) I have discovered Steve has some earlier dance experience.

Thank you for all the films, they're brilliant. The ant one is extraordinary. Completely agree with you on this post. I think they stitched Mark up last year and it's really shaken my faith in the producers giving the learners a fair go. And I think watching someone who didn't think they could dance at the beginning learn is one of the great joys of the show.
