I normally find rock related threads quicky vanish to page 2 of the music forums but nice to see this one still near the top.
And its great to remember some of those great intrumental songs that I have long forgot about, great music lives forever, and thats the case with songs mentioned in this thread.:)
'we' on the rare 60's classics track thread have pushed for a retro forum, so the lurking adults could come out the closet and contribute more. this site like most pop music sites are dominated by 'da kidz' lol. but there is a market for a decent retro site, i reckon if there was a sub forum specifically for retro it would generate more traffic.

Totally agree, DS should have some kind of Rock subforum in the music forums so all the rock threads are not lost within a day. So many miss many good threads due to them vanishing to page 2 and beyond in a day.
I will send a Private message to one of the DS guys asking if they can consider it, others should do the same.

Good choice, seen it done live...awesome, couldn`t possibly say what my fav would be, have to whittle it down from 100`s
Yep me as well, one of the first live concerts I ever went to was the hemispheres tour by rush
I love the whole concept of the song but live its amazing, alex's guitar work in that video especially the stuff where he is showcasing solo is amazing, stunning fret work.
Have seen a video where the guitarist out of metallica is raving about alex's guitar work in that song.

My two fav Guitar players are Alex and Adrian Smith, First got into Rush with the 2112 album, still play it today loads..mind blowing stuff

Yeah the 2112 album is pretty timeless, my son has also been getting into Rush over the last few years and now some of his mates as well, a whole new generation now championing their music.:)
But while this thread is here, I am going to do some blatant promotion for my brother, who made a guitar instrumental version of A Spaceman Came Travelling here.
It's a pretty awesome version of it. He usually does 'heavy' rock kinda style, but he wanted to do a Christmas song! It's not very long, so if you have a couple of minutes have a listen (or to any of his other songs ).
I also like part 2 of 'The Cinema Show' by Genesis.
'Rhyader' by Camel is pretty flute-tastically cool as well. In fact the whole instrumental 'Snow Goose' album is worthy of a listen.
Prog-tastic.
If you are going to introduce the 'Snow Goose', then 'Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield should be on this list, a much more original and influential piece.

Wasn't expecting much, but it sounds great so far.Thanks.

Inspired choice, the ambient sounds of waterfalls, Geese and trains in the background whilst being recorded just makes this a magical bit of music.
For personal reasons, Santana ~ Samba Pa Ti, hits the spot !

Sylvia by Focus is definitely one of my favourites.
Alan Parsons Project - Mammagamma
Herb Alpert - Rise
Duran Duran - Tel Aviv (very underrated piece of music from their first ever album)
MONO - Com(?)
Everyone's favourite scottish funsters, Mogwai!
Mogwai - Yes! I am a Long Way from Home

That's right, George Bellamy. The Tornados were the the first British band to make it to no. 1 in the US.

If not, Sylvia by Focus
