PETRAEUS RESIGNS OVER AFFAIR
CIA director David Petraeus has resigned from his post, after admitting an extra-marital affair. In his resignation statement, he said his behaviour had been "unacceptable". Unnamed officials say his affair was with his biographer, Paula Broadwell. Prior to joining the CIA, Petraeus was a high-ranking military official credited with the success of the "surge" in Iraq.

I have to admit I had a bit of a soft spot for this hero/man. Leader/Roman gladiator. This was a shock. But in a way not a surprise. Are we meant to be monogynous?
Maybe we would like to be, the brain tells us we can, but most basic animal instinct nearly always surfaces.
And why did he resign? It has no effect on his ability to do his job. Clinton didn't resign.

I don't think we were designed to be monogamous biologically speaking, but this doesn't mean I do not think people can be faithful.I think its an individual thing, some can't some can't. People need to be truthful to themselves, if you know you can't be monogamous you shouldn't enter into a relationship where the other person expects it.
Yes, I agree. As a race, to be successful we must reproduce, that is the instinct to breed. But we have evolved to be monogamous. Some less than others.
Man can be monogamous, some seem to manage it, but I think that instinct will always be there to stray.
I agree, I didn't know she was married too. It takes two to tango. The woman is often blamed for being the marriage wrecker, when the man has cheated.
Has she lost her job as well then?
Also now he does not have to testify, apparently.
Good timing of his confession.
Hardly, especially when you take into account she was his biographer. Not to mention the guy was a professional, so I very much doubt that he whispered details of any SAD operations or black site locations to her in bed.
I'm wondering why it's always about the sex, or genitalia, when these types end up abruptly ending their careers. Public officials do much worse than this. He was the head of the CIA, and before that, a general of the US army. They can do so incredibly much worse, than have consensual sex with someone who wasn't their current monogamous partner.
If Petraeus was the President & a Democrat then he wouldn't even think to resign!
Well, blokes are meant to have just the one.
Crikey, could you be any more offensive? I'm not offended but that's 'cos I'm a bloke who isn't a walking set of meat and two veg, as you stereotype my gender.
Oh flip. I fell for it hook line and sinker. meh.
Do you think we live in a fluffy world where men and women fall in love and only have eyes for each other for eternity? Do you not realise that we are ultimately governed by powerful instincts?
Why do the Ladies appear to recieve no blame at all the blokes fault of course.
Females usually get most of stick actually.
Err, whats with the implied attack on men?
I don't see the relevance here and of course he had to go - it shows he is untrustworthy and has a distinct lack of morality.
Maybe those are positive traits witin the CIA but not when they become public.
I'm not offended either. Takes all sorts, It's an opinion and a common one too, although most people wouldn't say it.
That's because there isn't really any excuse for a female to cheat. Women are supposed to be monogamous, biologically.
risk of blackmail... that's the security risk.
Likewise!
I hate that stereotyping.
Where exactly? I am talking about "man" as a species.
Its in your title!
