If you had the choice and money, where would you live and in what type of property?

Me, I'd need to do a bit of travelling first but from what I've experienced:

I'd live in Amsterdam in a 3 floor house, or just outside so it's less busy and cheaper. I really like Dutch people, it's a more interesting country than the UK and I hate the sun so Spain and similar countries would be a no go. :p

Next choice would be London, just outside central, in a spacious 3-4 bedroom house, with one room used as an office or a recording studio.

I want to visit Berlin and Brussels as well so my desires might change if/when I do.

How about you? :D

I'd be more than happy with a 3 or 4 bedroom home in Perth, Western Australia where I lived as a kid.

I'll never forgive my parents for bringing me back to this dump! :D

I'd live in a villa in Rome. And spend my days walking around the city.

:) OK - I'm taking this as a chance to go over what I would do if I ever won the lottery!

I haven't lived in any other country for any significant length of time so I'll stick to living in England. The weather, generally, suits me pretty well (even if I moan about it occasionally).

I'd like to live in Cheshire or somewhere near Manchester where I'm from. Somewhere a little out of town and that's nice and leafy with lots of trees lining the road. (I'm currently in exile Down South.) Most of my friends are also in and around Manchester and Leeds. London definitely has its attractions, but it's hard to find the right property without it: (i) being on the fringes of London (which misses the point of being in London); (ii) being a gigantic mansion requiring house staff; or (iii) being astronomically expensive (even for a lottery winner).

Type of property has to be a detached house with a good distance between it and neighbouring buildings.

    - Five bedrooms, all en-suite with a proper bath and walk in shower.
    - Double garage.
    - Big garden, front and back.
    - A big attic which I can use as a hobby room and mini library.
    - A big basement to store stuff that I don't really need but can't be bothered to throw away.
    - A big kitchen with a central 'island' as a work area and a pantry.
    - Two living rooms and a dining room.
    - A room for a home cinema.
    - Open plan ground floor (except for the kitchen which can be sectioned off).
    - A nice staircase.
    - A decent amount of natural light.
    - Ceilings at around 10ft.

First of all thanks ianx, that was funny.

Secondly, I would love to live somewhere in the countyside, with a stream at the bottom of the garden and house must be a old style black and white cottage. I can dream

Palm Beach in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney, if you have seen the houses at the top of the hill, you will know what I mean. If you don't know the area it is where they film home and away or used to.

In the country, detached and secluded, a wooden American style with a verandah all around, close to a stream and near to woods. What a lovely thought :)

A nice modern detatched house. It wouldn't have to be too big or grand though. My most important requirement would be to have a 25 metre swimming pool in my garden, preferably indoors so I could swim every day. Location - not that important as long as it was in or very near to a town. Countryside is just for looking at, not living in as far as I'm concerned.
I would also like a holiday home in a warm part of Europe - somewhere like greece, again it wouldn't have to be big or grand.

I'd buy an island somewhere nice and have a house built by the beach.

There's a nice three-storey mansion in Applethwaite between Keswick and Bassenthwaite I've always wanted...
