  This is a BB5 handset and they are very difficult to unlock.
  
  3 UK will not entertain unlocking until the end of the contract period and will charge a fee to provide the code when that has been passed.
  
  Have a look around the Internet, there are some sites that offer solutions but they are few and far between and I am not confident I would trust a £450 handset being sent away for this service.

  I can unlock this handset for £20, takes seven days to obtain the unlock code. Just enter the code in to the phone and your sim free!

  I believe they will unlock it after 11 months of your contract. As you would expect there is a catch. The more you have left on your contract the more they charge you. The absolute minimum they charge is £20, that's at the end of the contract.
  
  Not sure how it works on an upgrade/renewal.
