Only for the details. I don't believe they can stop it, they can call for a revote on certain parts of the bill. Thats my understanding.

That's not even close to not getting through! That's a 225 majority!

Interesting to see what happens when it goes to the house of Lords. There will be a great many people who object to the change.

It's not as if any compromise can be reached.

140 of the 175 against were Tories, apparently. I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

There shouldn't have been a need for this bill, in my honest opinion - I hoped that the original Civil Partnership bill would include the right to marry, rather than doing it all in two stages.

I'm shocked anyone but the Tories voted against.

"But a number of Conservative MPs voted against the plans."

I mean, they wouldn't want to marry their rent-boys, would they? ;)

A section of the tory party voted against equality? Woah - I need to sit down and think about this. Like you, I'm shocked!

Whenever they talk about same sex marriage, why is it, they always show pictures of two men holding hands? It's never two women.

Yes, civil partnership is just a compromise between discrimination and no discrimination. Which means; discrimination.

As same-sex marriage becomes normal, the arguments against treating gay people as decent people same as everyone else, will only weaken, as it will become more and more difficult to lie about what it means to be gay, when everyone can see, it makes no difference.

This will harm the fundamentalists, and the more problematic religious groups.

    1) No one is being discriminated against. Everyone is entitled to what their own belief of what the word 'marriage' means.

What part of gay people are not allowed to marry do you not understand? To say no one is being discriminated against is laughable.
