I'm surprised Paul O'Grady can't find a farm in beautiful Cheshire though. Much nearer his beloved Wirral than Kent is... I sometimes find O'Grady, clearly a multi-millionaire champagne socialist, a little patronising when talking about 'us working class' when speaking to people

Reminds me of his series a year or two ago, where the BBC gave him a platform to spout off for a couple of hours about a mythical, heroic, salt-of-the-earth "working class" whilst implying that anyone not "working class" is basically scum, not even a "real" person.

I usually quite like the guy but that programme had me shouting at the TV.

I know what you mean by that. It's the way Ms Black keeps banging on about the Beatles and how she's so chummy with them.

I find this hard to believe as I remember Paul McCartney being introduced to Ms Black on some live television show years ago and I was under the impression that Paul looked rather cringy & awkward with her and his expression showed that he'd wished he was anywhere but there with Ms Black in person.

Cilla is still friends with Paul and Ringo, in the 70's Paul and Linda went on a holiday with her and Bobby, she is still best friends with George's ex wife Pattie Boyd, if you look into it you will see she was at Ringo and Barbara's wedding in 1980 too.
Paul mentioned her at his Liverpool gig a couple of year ago said she was backstage at a concert of his in Paris.

Hmm, that's all a bit tenuous. I would say she's an acquaintance rather than a friend. She wasn't invited to Paul's wedding (and complained about it in the press). I also don't remember get at Linda's memorial service. I get the impression that Paul got on better with Bobby.

Not sure why she wasn't at Paul's wedding but he did write a nice long letter to her after Bobby died, Paul's brother Mike was at her 60th birthday party and brought with him another lovely letter from Paul, Linda was friends with her and tried to turn her into a vegetarian, she should have shown her the film that I saw at Paul's concert in 1993 instead as that turned me into one.
Paul also wrote a thing in one of her CD packages a couple of years ago and said he has loved her for many years as a friend.

Ringo is the closest to Cilla from The Beatles they have known each other since before either of them knew John, Paul and George she used to go to his house and do his mothers hair for her and Ringo used to turn up at Cilla's office job she had and beg her to go to the cinema with him.

George Martin and his wife are still very close to Cilla, Brian Epstein loved her like a daughter or sister, he adored her. In the 60's she used to have mad parties that The Beatles and The Rolling Stones came to, Cynthia Lennon hid in Cilla's wardrobe at one party as she was peeved off with John for something.

I am a massive Beatles fan and have been since 1976 so I have read all this stuff.

I do have to say though that when Paul mentioned her at his Liverpool gig a couple of years ago the audience booed her then Paul said "I am not having that"

Nice to see someone putting in a good word about her. But I don't think it will make any difference to all the posters who seem to want to dislike her for no good reason.

True, but 'dislike' is a feeling you sometimes just cannot help. I don't wish Cilla any ill and definitely wouldn't describe her as 'the most unpleasant person in showbiz'. However, there's just something I've not liked about her for a large number of years, even before some of the 'stories' came to my attention. I find her a bit false and disingenuous plus never fell for her 'Scouse' image. I don't believe all the negative stuff I read about her but do believe that she has been more than a bit of a pain in certain circumstances. I felt really sad for her when Bobby died but I would for anyone who loses a long term partner. I also thought her earlier singing voice was pretty good- not my favourite- but pleasant on the ear. It got shriller and harsher as the years went by but I guess that can happen, especially if she spent much of her earlier singing career in smoky venues.

I've always been indifferent to Cilla - take her or leave her but I remember back in the 90's an ex telling me his firm had replaced her double glazing and she was a complete horror to them. He said they were completely shocked that such a 'national treasure' was actually a rude, ignorant, b...h with no hint of a scouse accent. I'd actually forgotten about it until reading this thread.

I don't know much about Black but a friend of mine has met Barbara Windsor and said she was extremely rude and unpleasant. Can't say i like Windsor and never been that keen on Black either.

If i ever had the misfortune to meet a rude and nasty celeb and they were rude to me i'd bloody well be rude back, don't mean a thing to me who they are or who they think they are

My Mum & Stepdad met Windsor. She was in their compartment when they flew to Las Vegas. There were not many people in the compartment, & they say she chatted to them & others & was very friendly, with no airs & graces.

Perhaps they caught her when she was in a good mood

I saw that programme too and O'Grady did not come across that well in it. There was just something about his attitude that made viewing uncomfortable.

I remember Twiggy cut him down a bit though!!

Between her mansions in Barbados, Buckinghamshire, London & the Costa Del Sol... I'm sure 'R Cilla' doesn't have a lorra lorra time to spend a night there
