Blackberry firmware won't update?

I just got a Blackberry Curve 8520, and when I go to Options>About it says the firmware I have is version 4.6.1.314 and I know that there is a version 5, however when I try to update it using BB Desktop Manager, it says it's already up-to-date 
It clearly isn't up-to-date because my blackberry messenger was version 4.6 and I had to manually upgrade it to the newest version. All my other apps (browser, email etc) are still version 4.6. How do I update all of them?
