Using v3 update on TomTom ONE v2

I connected my TomTom one (v2) to the PC before as I haven't checked for updates for ages, installed something and I now found out it's installed the mapshare device on it and the stuff I presume is available with the newer version 3. Has anyone else done this, is at all actually compatible with V2 as my sat nav only seems to want to switch on when it's plugged into the cigarette lighter rather than running off batteries?

    my tomtom1 sometimes did that, I found that leaving it on the mains charger all night brought it back to life. I dont think tha battery liked multiple short charging periods.
